Q
Can I pay bail at Riverhead in the middle of the night?
Yes. Riverhead accepts bail 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and it is the only one of Suffolk's two jails that does. Yaphank runs 7:00 AM to 10:30 PM. Riverhead is also the only place in the county that accepts bonds, so a bond comes here regardless of which building holds your person.

Q
Is Riverhead the same as Yaphank?
No. They are two separate jails run by the same Sheriff's Office under one set of published family rules. Riverhead is at 100 Center Drive South and holds 840; Yaphank is at 200 Glover Drive and holds 976. The differences that matter to a family are bail hours, housing type and which programmes run where.

Q
What address does mail go to?
To the Suffolk County Correctional Facility at 110 Center Drive South, Riverhead, NY 11901. That single address covers both jails. Note the street number: the facility is at 100 and the mail goes to 110, which is a genuinely easy thing to get wrong when both appear on county material.

Q
How do I find out if someone is here?
Call Central Records on 631-852-2241, staffed around the clock. Suffolk County publishes no inmate search tool of any kind, and the county lookup page that appears in search results does not exist. That call is also how you get the six digit number the visiting registration form requires.

Q
When can I visit Riverhead?
Tuesday to Friday, four slots: 2:30 to 3:30, 4:00 to 5:00, 6:45 to 7:45 and 8:15 to 9:15 PM. Saturday runs 8:30 to 9:30 and 10:00 to 11:00 in the morning, then 1:00 to 2:00 and 2:30 to 3:30 in the afternoon. No family visiting on Sundays or Mondays, and everything is by appointment.

Q
Why does the state only list one Suffolk jail?
We noticed the same thing. New York's correction oversight body publishes a single Suffolk entry, for Riverhead at Center Drive, and Yaphank appears nowhere in that directory. The state's data agency tracks both separately and reports their populations individually. The oversight directory splits other two-jail counties, so this looks like a genuine gap rather than a convention.

Q
What programme is Riverhead known for?
Choose Your Path, which serves people aged 18 to 25 with a 40 hour week of work and structured programming. Yaphank carries the county's other specialised units: the addiction treatment programme, the Veterans Pod, the 55 and over Pod and the women's programme.

Q
How much can I put on someone's account?
Up to 100 dollars per deposit, through Access Corrections online or on 1-866-345-1884, or at the kiosk in the Riverhead visiting lobby which takes cash, credit and debit. Funds land in about 15 minutes, and the fee comes out of the deposit rather than being added to it.
