Q
What are the visiting hours at the Westchester County Jail?
Visits run Monday through Sunday in six one hour slots, starting at 9:10, 10:20, 11:30, 1:15, 2:30 and 3:45. Every one is booked in advance on 914-231-4116, and that line only answers weekdays between 9 AM and 1 PM. You get two one hour visits a week with at most one at a weekend.

Q
Which visits close at the Friday deadline?
Saturday, Sunday and Monday, all three. They must be scheduled no later than 1 PM on the preceding Friday. Monday being in that group is the part families miss, and it means somebody taken into custody on a Friday afternoon cannot be visited until Tuesday.
Visitation
Q
Is the Westchester County Jail one place or three?
One campus with three divisions. The Department of Correction runs a 21 acre site at Grasslands in Valhalla holding a Jail Division, a Penitentiary Division and a Women's Unit, plus headquarters, a training centre and a maintenance building. For families it works as one place: one mailing address, one visiting policy, one phone vendor and one deposit system.

Q
Who is held at the Westchester County Jail?
Men and women aged 18 and over. That covers people awaiting trial in Westchester County criminal courts, people serving sentences of a year or less, parole violators, and federal defendants with cases pending in the Southern District of New York. That last group is unusual for a county jail.

Q
Where do I send mail?
To the person's name at PO Box 10, Valhalla, New York 10595. The county also runs a direct print service at westchestercountymail.com for colour photos, letters and greeting cards sent from a computer. Both routes are published by the Department of Correction itself.

Q
Why can I not find someone in the inmate lookup?
Because the county does not put everyone in it. Its own guidance says that for security reasons, or depending on the type of person held, someone may not appear at all. That makes an empty result genuinely uninformative here. The information line on 914-231-1000 can confirm custody, bail status and bail amount by phone.

Q
How do I put money on someone's account?
TouchPay, two ways. There are kiosks in the jail lobby serving both male and female residents, Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 9 PM, and the TouchPay website takes major credit cards at any hour. You need valid photo identification to leave money or property in person.

Q
Can I call in and speak to someone being held?
No. The county states plainly that residents cannot receive phone calls or messages. Calls only go outward to a number you have set up to accept them. If there is an emergency or a death in the family, the route is to contact the shift supervisor.
Phone Calls
Q
Can I drop off a package?
Yes, on a narrower schedule than most people expect. Packages for both male and female residents are taken Monday to Friday, 9 to 10:45 AM and 1:30 to 4:30 PM, and the window is shut between 10:45 and 1:30. The county publishes separate acceptable items lists for male and female residents.

Q
How do I post bail?
At the jail it is cash in United States currency or a major credit card, nothing else, and it can be done 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Bail can also be posted online or by phone with a major credit card. Any other form of payment has to go through the court of record instead.
