How to Send Money to FCI Elkton

Critical Rule: Do Not Send Money to Lisbon

The P.O. Box 10 address in Lisbon is for mail only, not money. Every BOP facility uses the same rule: funds sent by mail go to a central processing center in Des Moines, Iowa, regardless of where the inmate is housed. Sending a money order to the Lisbon address will cause delays.

Option 1: MoneyGram

MoneyGram is the fastest way to deposit funds.

1. Go to any MoneyGram agent location. Many are at Walmart, CVS, and grocery stores. You can also send online at moneygram.com.
2. Select “Inmate Deposits” or “Send Money.”
3. Enter receive code 7932 (this routes the deposit to BOP).
4. Enter the inmate’s full legal name and 8-digit register number.
5. Pay by cash, debit, or credit card.

Deposits typically post within 1-3 business days.

Option 2: Western Union

1. Go to any Western Union location or use westernunion.com.
2. Select “Quick Collect.”
3. Use code city: FBOP and state: DC as the destination.
4. Enter the inmate’s full legal name and 8-digit register number.
5. Complete the transaction.

Deposits typically post within 1-3 business days.

Option 3: USPS Money Order by Mail

If you prefer to mail a money order:

1. Purchase a USPS money order. Do not use personal checks or non-USPS money orders.
2. Make it payable to the inmate: [Inmate Full Legal Name, Register Number]
3. Write the inmate’s full legal name and 8-digit register number on the memo line.
4. Mail to the BOP lockbox processing center in Des Moines, Iowa. Get the exact mailing address from the BOP at bop.gov/inmates/communications.jsp or by calling (330) 420-6200.

Mailed money orders take longer to post than MoneyGram or Western Union.

What Funds Cover

The inmate’s commissary account covers:

• Commissary purchases: hygiene products, snacks, writing supplies, clothing items, and other approved goods
• TRUFONE phone calls: call charges deduct from the commissary account
• CorrLinks email: messaging service fees
• Tablets and media: approved digital programs may draw from this account

Monthly Spending Limit

The BOP caps commissary spending at $360 per month across all federal facilities. Deposits above the monthly spending balance are held in the account until the next month.

Finding the Inmate’s Register Number

You need the inmate’s 8-digit BOP register number to send money. Find it using the BOP Inmate Locator at bop.gov/inmateloc/. Search by name. The register number appears in the search results. You can also ask the inmate directly. They know their own register number.

Troubleshooting

If a deposit doesn’t post within 3 business days:

• Confirm the register number was entered correctly.
• Check your transaction receipt for the confirmation number.
• Contact MoneyGram, Western Union, or the BOP at (330) 420-6200.
