Sending Mail to Ohio Reformatory for Women

Personal letters and cards go to the ODRC Mail Processing Center in Youngstown, not Marysville. Legal mail, books, and magazines go to 1479 Collins Avenue, Marysville, OH 43040.

Overview

Effective November 13, 2023, ODRC changed how personal mail is processed for Ohio Reformatory for Women. Letters and cards from family and friends now go to the ODRC Mail Processing Center (OMPC) in Youngstown, Ohio. Legal mail, business correspondence, books, magazines, and newspapers are not affected by this change and still go to the Marysville facility address. Using the wrong address will delay delivery.

Quick Facts

  • Personal letters and cards: send to the ODRC Mail Processing Center (OMPC), 884 Coitsville-Hubbard Road, Youngstown, OH 44505.
  • Include the inmate's full legal name and ODRC offender number on the first line.
  • Legal mail, business correspondence, books, magazines, and newspapers: send to 1479 Collins Avenue, Marysville, OH 43040.
  • Mail sent to the old Marysville address will be forwarded but will be delayed.
  • All non-privileged mail is inspected before delivery.
  • Legal mail from attorneys is opened only in the inmate's presence.

Personal Mail Address (Letters and Cards)

Since November 13, 2023, all personal letters and cards from family and friends must be sent to the ODRC Mail Processing Center, not the Marysville facility address.

Use this format for personal mail:

[Inmate Full Legal Name, ODRC Number]
Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction
Mail Processing Center (OMPC)
884 Coitsville-Hubbard Road
Youngstown, Ohio 44505

If you don’t have the inmate’s ODRC number, search the ODRC Offender Search at appgateway.drc.ohio.gov/OffenderSearch or call ORW at (937) 642-1065.

Mail sent to the old 1479 Collins Avenue address will be forwarded to the processing center, but the forwarding process adds delay. Update your records now to avoid this.

Legal mail from attorneys, courts, and government agencies, along with business correspondence, goes to the facility directly:

[Inmate Full Legal Name, ODRC Number]
Ohio Reformatory for Women
1479 Collins Avenue
Marysville, OH 43040

Legal mail is opened only in the inmate’s presence to check for contraband, then delivered sealed. Mark envelopes “Legal Mail” and include bar number or firm letterhead.

Books, Magazines, and Newspapers

Printed materials (books, magazines, newspapers) also go to the Marysville facility address at 1479 Collins Avenue, Marysville, OH 43040. They are not affected by the mail processing center change.

Books and magazines must be ordered from a publisher or approved retailer. They cannot be sent from a home address. When ordering, enter the facility’s Marysville address as the shipping destination and include the inmate’s full legal name and ODRC number. Call (937) 642-1065 to confirm approved retailers or any title restrictions.

Photos

Photo rules follow ODRC policy and can change. Call (937) 642-1065 to confirm current rules before mailing photos. Typical ODRC policy allows:

  • Standard photos, usually up to 4x6 print size
  • No Polaroids, no adhesive photos, no laminated images
  • No sexually explicit images, gang symbols, or images that could compromise security
  • A maximum number of photos per envelope (call to confirm the current limit)

If photos go with personal mail, send them to the OMPC address in Youngstown, not the Marysville address.

Letters and Card Content

Keep content appropriate. ODRC inspects all non-privileged mail before delivery. Mail containing threats, encoded messages, descriptions of criminal activity, or prohibited content may be rejected and could result in disciplinary action for the inmate.

What Cannot Be Sent

Do not include any of the following in mail to ORW:

  • Cash of any kind
  • Packages or boxes (personal mail is limited to paper-based content)
  • Stickers, glitter, or anything with adhesive
  • Food items
  • Contraband of any kind

What to Do If Mail Is Rejected

If mail is returned or rejected, call (937) 642-1065 or email [email protected] to ask the mailroom for the reason. Common causes include wrong address, missing ODRC number, prohibited content, or books sent from a home address.
