Lane Murray Unit Phone Calls. How Securus Works

Calls are outbound only, so set up Securus and they call you.

Overview

Phone calls at the Dr. Lane Murray Unit run through Securus Technologies, the company TDCJ uses for prison phone services. You cannot call into the facility. The person inside places calls out to numbers on their approved list. To receive calls, create a free Securus account at securustech.net, add your phone number, and fund it through AdvanceConnect so their calls connect when they dial.

Quick Facts

  • Phone vendor: Securus Technologies, used by all TDCJ prisons including Lane Murray.
  • Calls are outbound only: the person calls you from the facility.
  • Create a free Securus account at securustech.net and add your phone number.
  • Fund your account through AdvanceConnect so calls connect when they dial.
  • All calls are monitored and recorded for security.
  • Securus tablets may also allow messaging and video visits.
  • Call (254) 865-8901 to ask about phone access hours at the Lane Murray Unit.

Why You Cannot Call In

You cannot dial the Lane Murray Unit and reach your loved one directly. Incoming calls to the facility are not connected to incarcerated individuals. The phone system works in one direction: the person inside places calls out to phone numbers you have registered in your Securus account. Your job is to set up that account and keep it funded so their call connects every time they dial your number.

Step 1. Create Your Securus Account

Go to securustech.net and create a free account. Use your real name and the phone number you want them to call you on. You can add multiple phone numbers to one account. Once your number is in the system, the person at Lane Murray can dial it from the facility phones.

Step 2. Fund Through AdvanceConnect

Calls from TDCJ facilities cost money per minute. Securus uses a prepaid feature called AdvanceConnect that lets you load money onto your account so you always have a balance available when the call comes in. The alternative is having the person pay from their own account funded through JPay. Either way, there needs to be money available for the call to connect.

To add money to AdvanceConnect, log into your Securus account at securustech.net and select the funding option. You can pay by debit or credit card. Current per-minute rates for TDCJ calls vary. Check your Securus account or visit securustech.net for the latest rates.

Call Length and Access Hours

TDCJ limits the length of individual calls. Calls are typically capped at 15 to 30 minutes, though the exact limit at the Lane Murray Unit can vary. Call (254) 865-8901 to ask about the current call time limit and the hours when the person has access to facility phones. Phone access is during designated time blocks, not 24 hours a day. Knowing the access schedule helps you know when to expect calls.

If Your Carrier Blocks the Call

Some mobile carriers block calls from prison phone systems by default. If your loved one’s calls are not getting through even though your Securus account is set up and funded, contact your carrier and ask them to unblock calls from Securus. You can also contact Securus support at securustech.net. This is one of the most common reasons calls fail after everything is correctly set up.

Messaging and Video Visits Through Securus Tablets

The Lane Murray Unit may have Securus tablets available. Tablets allow the person to send text messages and, in some cases, conduct video visits through the Securus platform. Video visits through tablets do not require travel to Gatesville and can be scheduled through your Securus account. Contact Securus or call (254) 865-8901 to confirm whether tablet messaging and video visits are currently available at Lane Murray.

When Calls Are Not an Option

Phone calls are not always possible, whether because of access hours, call blocks, or funding issues. Sending a letter or printed photo is something your loved one can hold onto between calls. Pigeonly lets you upload a photo from your phone and have it printed and mailed to the Lane Murray Unit without needing a printer. See the mail and photos guide for the address and photo rules.
