Write the inmate's full name and the facility address on the envelope. Include your full name and return address so undeliverable mail can be sent back to you.
Mail & LettersMail, photos, messaging, and phone/call options for staying in touch.
Mail is the one form of contact at Garza West that doesn’t require approval, a vendor account, or a background check. Anyone can send a letter — but TDCJ inspects everything, and anything that doesn’t follow the rules gets returned or destroyed. Address your envelope with the inmate’s full legal name, TDCJ number, and the unit address, and always include your full name and return address on the outside.

All mail to inmates at Garza West goes to:
[Inmate Full Legal Name, TDCJ Number]
Garza West Unit
4250 Highway 202
Beeville, TX 78102
Include his full name exactly as it appears in the TDCJ system, along with his TDCJ number.
Standard letters and cards — Handwritten or printed on regular paper. Cards from stores are allowed as long as they don’t have glitter, attachments, pop-ups, or embedded items.
Photos — Physical photos are allowed under TDCJ’s mail rules, subject to content restrictions (no nudity, no gang-related imagery, no depictions of weapons or violence). Standard 4×6 prints work well.
Books and publications — Paperback books and approved publications may be sent directly from the publisher or a retailer — not from home.
If you’re not sure your home printer meets TDCJ specs, Pigeonly prints and mails photos directly to Garza West in a TDCJ-compliant format.
Mail to TDCJ units typically takes 5–10 business days from postmark to delivery. During holidays or lockdowns, it can take longer.
