Step One — Call the Facility First

Call Lakin at (304) 674-2440 before filling out forms. Ask for the visitation office and confirm the current visiting request form, where to send it, and how long approval is taking.

Step Two — Complete the Visiting Request Form

Every adult visitor must complete a visiting request form and sign a certification that answers may be used in the background check. Typical information required:

• Full legal name and date of birth
• Current address and contact information
• Government-issued ID number
• Relationship to the inmate
• Disclosure of any criminal history

Be honest on criminal history — prior convictions don’t automatically disqualify you, but undisclosed convictions found later are more likely to result in denial.

Step Three — Submit and Wait

Don’t plan a visit until you receive written confirmation of approval. If you haven’t heard back after three weeks, follow up at (304) 674-2440.

Approval Does Not Guarantee Entry

The facility superintendent can deny a visit for security or administrative reasons even after your background check clears. Keep every visit clean — dress code violations or prohibited items can end your visit and affect future approval.

In-Person vs. Video Visits

In-person: Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Schedule with the facility once approved.

Video: Wednesday and Sunday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM through connectnetwork.com. Book early — Sunday slots fill quickly when both in-person and video visits run.

Dress Code and What to Bring

Contact Lakin at (304) 674-2440 for the current prohibited clothing list. General rules:

• Government-issued photo ID — name must match the approved list exactly
• No clothing matching inmate uniform colors
• No revealing clothing
• Leave phones, bags, and wallets in the car
• Confirm coin/vending rules with the facility before visiting

Children’s Visiting Rules

A parent or legal guardian already on the approved visiting list must apply for the child. If someone other than the parent transports the child, notarized permission documentation is required. Call (304) 674-2440 before any visit involving a child.

Before Every Visit

Call (304) 674-2440 the morning of your visit — especially if traveling more than 30–45 minutes. Visits can be suspended without notice for lockdowns or staffing.
