  • Two adults

Children under 18 cannot visit unless accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or immediate family member. If a family member other than a parent is bringing a minor child, they must have a notarized Juvenile Visitation Form from the non-incarcerated parent/legal guardian. This notarized permission slip and the child’s birth certificate must accompany the child on each visit.

Note: The facility cannot notarize these forms. You must have the form notarized outside the facility.

Step 1. The Inmate Requests the Visit

Visits at Tygart Valley are scheduled, not walk-in. The person inside must fill out TVRJ Form 5-0029, Request for Scheduled Visitation, and submit it between 8 a.m. Monday and noon Thursday of the week before they want the visit.

All visitor names must be listed on the request. Anyone who arrives and was not listed will not be eligible to visit. Requests are approved or denied and sent back to the inmate.

Visits are scheduled in 30-minute intervals with five inmates/families per interval. If the requested time slot is full, the inmate will be assigned the next available time slot.

Step 2. Arrive On Time

Visitors who arrive more than 15 minutes late for their scheduled appointment will be denied the visit unless they call ahead with a valid reason and inform visitation staff.

Visits are non-contact and last exactly 30 minutes. Any visits longer than 30 minutes must have prior approval (24 hours in advance) from the Superintendent or Chief Correctional Officer.
