The Correct Mailing Address
Send all personal mail to:
[Full Name and KY DOC Number]
Green River Correctional Complex
P.O. Box 9300
Central City, KY 42330
The DOC number is the most important part. Without it, staff may not be able to match the mail to the right person, and your letter can be delayed or sent back. Find the number with the inmate search guide.
What Happens to Your Mail
All incoming mail is opened and inspected for contraband before it reaches the person. This is normal for state prisons. Legal mail is handled under separate rules and is opened in front of the person, not read by staff.
Write the return address clearly. Mail with no return address may be rejected.
Sending Photos
Photos are a great way to stay close. To make sure they get through:
- Send standard 4x6 prints
- Do not send Polaroids or instant photos
- Keep the count reasonable per envelope
- Avoid anything explicit, or images showing weapons, drugs, alcohol, or gang signs
Write the person’s name and DOC number lightly on the back of each photo in case it gets separated from the envelope.
What Not to Send
- Cards with glitter, stickers, tape, or attached items
- Anything that looks like contraband
- Cash (use JPay to send money instead)
- Books or magazines sent by you directly, unless the facility allows it
Packages and Books
Package and publication rules are stricter and can change. Books and magazines often have to come straight from a publisher or approved seller. Before you mail anything beyond a letter or photos, call Green River at (270) 754-5415 to confirm the current rules so your package is not returned.
