Luther Luckett Correctional Complex opened in March 1981 as the first security institution built in Kentucky since the Kentucky State Reformatory in 1937. It was constructed in response to a Federal Consent Decree involving KDOC and named for Luther Luckett, a 22-year employee of the department. The facility sits on 33 acres in LaGrange and shares its campus with the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center, a separate facility operated by the Health and Family Services Cabinet. LLCC is ACA accredited and offers inmates an unusually wide range of programming, from vocational training in auto technology, collision repair, masonry, and welding to college-level courses up to the master’s degree level through education partnerships.
