This is the only official tool for finding someone in federal custody. Search by the person’s full legal name and date of birth, or by their BOP register number if you have it. The locator shows the facility name, so you’ll be able to tell whether your person is at FCI Milan or the adjacent FDC.

FCI Milan vs. FDC Milan

The Milan campus holds two separate populations:

• FCI Milan is a low-security institution for men who have already been sentenced.
• FDC Milan, on the same grounds, holds pretrial detainees and people awaiting trial or sentencing.

These are treated as different facilities for visiting, mail, and phone purposes, even though they share an address. The BOP locator result will tell you which one your person is assigned to.

What to Have Ready

Before searching, have the person’s full legal name spelled exactly as it appears on official documents, and their date of birth. If you already have their BOP register number, the search is faster and more exact.

If the Record Doesn’t Appear

New intakes and recent transfers can take a few days to show up in the locator. If it’s been longer than that and you have reason to believe someone is at Milan, call the facility directly at (734) 439-1511.
