How to Send Money to FCI Milan

MoneyGram, Western Union, or a mailed money order to the Bureau of Prisons' central lockbox.

Overview

Like every BOP facility, FCI Milan doesn’t take deposits at the front desk. Money goes through one of three channels: MoneyGram, Western Union, or a money order mailed to the Bureau of Prisons’ central processing center in Des Moines, Iowa. From there it lands in the person’s trust fund account, which they use for commissary.

Three Ways to Send Money

MoneyGram

Use receive code 7932 at any MoneyGram location or online at moneygram.com. You’ll need the person’s full name and BOP register number.

Western Union

Send to code city “FBOP DC” through any Western Union location or westernunion.com.

Mailed Money Order

Send a USPS money order to:

Federal Bureau of Prisons PO Box 474701 Des Moines, IA 50947

Write the person’s full name and BOP register number on the memo line. Personal checks and cash are not accepted by mail.

Why the Memo Line Matters

The BOP processes deposits centrally for every federal facility from the Des Moines lockbox, not from FCI Milan itself. Without the person’s full name and exact register number on the memo line, the deposit can be delayed or returned. Double check the spelling and number before sending.

The Commissary Limit

Commissary spending is capped at $360 a month system-wide across the BOP, the same limit at every facility, not something specific to FCI Milan. Deposits beyond what’s needed for that month’s commissary still post to the account, but the person can only spend up to the monthly cap.

How Long It Takes

MoneyGram and Western Union deposits typically post within a day or two. Mailed money orders take longer since they have to reach Des Moines, get processed, and then sync to the person’s account at Milan, often a week or more.
