Guilford County Detention Center opened in 2012 at 201 S. Edgeworth St. in downtown Greensboro. It was built as a podular-style, direct supervision facility, a design that puts correctional officers inside housing pods with detainees rather than in a control booth outside. The facility holds a rated capacity of 1,032 and is accredited by CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies). Sheriff D. H. Rogers oversees facility operations through the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office. Programs available to detainees include AA, NA, life skills classes, health programs, and chaplain/religious services.
