Three Ways to Send Money

Guilford County Detention Center gives you three ways to put money on someone’s account. Each has different requirements and tradeoffs.

Option 1: Online at InmateCanteen

Go to team3.inmatecanteen.com and create a free account. Search for Guilford County Detention Center, enter the person’s inmate ID number and full name, choose an amount, and pay with a debit or credit card. Funds post immediately. A service fee applies and is shown before you confirm.

This is the fastest option for first-time depositors who do not want to travel to the facility.

Option 2: Lobby Kiosk (24/7)

The IC Team3 lobby kiosk is at the facility at 201 S. Edgeworth St., Greensboro. It is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Accepted payment at the kiosk:

  • Cash
  • Debit cards
  • Visa or Mastercard linked to a bank account

Not accepted at the kiosk: Prepaid cards or gift cards.

Cash deposit limit: $300 per rolling 7-day period. This limit applies to cash transactions at the kiosk only.

You will need the person’s inmate ID number to complete a kiosk transaction.

Option 3: Mail a Check or Money Order

Mail a certified check or cashier’s check (or money order) payable to the person’s name and inmate ID. Send it to the facility at:

Guilford County Detention Center 201 S. Edgeworth St. Greensboro, NC 27401

Mail rules for deposits:

  • Certified checks, cashier’s checks, or money orders only
  • No personal checks
  • No cash
  • Write the person’s full name and inmate ID number on the memo line
  • Processing times for mailed deposits may be longer than online or kiosk deposits

What You Always Need

The inmate ID number. Every deposit method requires it. Do not try to deposit without it. A deposit submitted with the wrong ID can be delayed, misapplied, or returned.

Find the inmate ID number using the Police to Citizen inmate search at guilfordcountysheriff.policetocitizen.com/Inmates/Catalog.

What the Money Covers

Money deposited through InmateCanteen goes to the person’s account and can be used for:

  • Commissary: Food, hygiene items, clothing, and other authorized purchases from the facility store
  • Phone time: Calls through Pay Tel Communications. See the phone calls guide for how Pay Tel works
  • Tablet messaging: Secure messages sent and received through the tablet system

Fees

A service fee applies to online and kiosk deposits. The exact fee depends on the deposit amount and payment method. InmateCanteen shows the fee before you confirm the transaction, so you will know the total cost upfront.

Mailed certified checks or money orders may have lower or no processing fees, but take longer to apply.

When Funds Credit

Online and kiosk deposits credit immediately after the transaction is confirmed. Mailed deposits take longer depending on mail delivery and processing time at the facility.

Troubleshooting a Failed Deposit

If a deposit does not appear on the account:

  1. Check that you entered the correct inmate ID number
  2. Check that the person is still in custody at the Greensboro facility (not transferred or released)
  3. Check the InmateCanteen transaction history in your account
  4. Contact InmateCanteen support through team3.inmatecanteen.com
  5. Call the facility at (336) 641-2700 if the deposit is missing after 24 hours

Account Limits and Holds

The facility may place a hold on an account for disciplinary reasons or court-ordered restitution. If a person cannot access deposited funds, they should speak with housing staff to find out the reason. Depositors can contact InmateCanteen support or call (336) 641-2700 for guidance.

What Happens to Funds if the Person Is Transferred or Released

If the person is transferred to another facility, contact InmateCanteen to ask about fund transfer procedures. Funds may not automatically follow the person to a different system. If they are released, remaining funds are typically disbursed according to the facility’s policy, which may include a check issued to the person upon release.
