Overview

Visiting Orange Correctional Center takes two steps: getting on the approved visitor list, then scheduling a session. The person inside must mail you a blank visitor application. You fill it out and return it to the facility. After approval, call (919) 732-9301 to schedule. Visiting hours are not published online, so calling is the only way to confirm available times. Each session allows up to 3 visitors, runs up to 2 hours, and can happen once per week. As a minimum custody reentry facility, Orange Correctional Center may allow visits on a more flexible schedule than higher-security prisons, but you still need to call and confirm.

  • Visits are by appointment only. No walk-ins accepted.

Step 1. Get on the Approved Visitor List

Walk-in visits are not allowed at Orange Correctional Center. All visitors need advance approval before they can schedule a session. Here is how the process works:

  1. The person inside requests a blank visitor application and mails it to you.
  2. You fill out the application completely and return it to the facility.
  3. Adults 16 and older must attach a copy of a valid government-issued photo ID: a driver’s license, state ID card, or U.S. Passport.
  4. Minors under 16 must attach a copy of their birth certificate.
  5. The facility reviews and processes the application.

Each inmate can have up to 18 approved visitors. The visitor list is open for enrollment every 6 months. If you need to be added outside an enrollment window, contact the facility at (919) 732-9301 to ask about options.

Start this process early. Processing takes time, and you cannot schedule a session until your application is approved.

Step 2. Schedule the Visit

Once you are on the approved list, call (919) 732-9301 to schedule a session. Visiting hours at Orange Correctional Center are not published on the NC DAC website. The facility controls the schedule, and a phone call is the only way to find out what days and times are available.

When you call, have the inmate’s full legal name and OPUS Number ready. This helps staff confirm you are on the approved list and connect you to the right inmate record.

Visiting Hours

Visiting hours are not published online for Orange Correctional Center. Call (919) 732-9301 to confirm current available times before making travel plans. Hours can change due to staffing, security events, or facility programs without advance notice.

Orange Correctional Center is a minimum custody facility. Some minimum custody facilities offer more flexible or extended visit windows compared to medium or close custody prisons. Still, call and confirm before you make plans, since nothing is guaranteed without checking directly.

Who Can Visit and How Often

Each approved visit session allows:

  • Up to 3 visitors at one time
  • One session per week per inmate
  • Sessions last up to 2 hours

Children are welcome to visit but must be listed on the approved visitor application with a birth certificate on file. If someone other than a parent is bringing a child, contact the facility at (919) 732-9301 in advance to confirm what documentation is required.

What to Bring

Bring only what you need. Leave everything else in your vehicle.

You must show a valid government-issued photo ID to enter. Acceptable forms include:

  • State driver’s license or ID card
  • U.S. Passport or Passport Card
  • U.S. Military ID

Do not bring cell phones, smartwatches, cameras, or AI glasses. These are prohibited inside. If your ID includes any metal that sets off the detector, let the officer know before you go through.

Dress Code

Orange Correctional Center enforces a visitor dress code based on NC DAC policy. A visit can be denied or cut short if your clothing does not comply. The following are not allowed:

  • Halter tops, tube tops, strapless tops, or tank tops
  • Bare midriffs or tops that expose the midsection
  • Fishnet or see-through clothing
  • Spandex
  • Shorts, skirts, or dresses more than 3 inches above the kneecap
  • Wave caps, doo rags, or bandanas
  • Pants worn below the waist
  • Clothing with gang affiliations, profanity, or other prohibited content

Dress conservatively. When in doubt, go with solid, modest clothing in neutral colors. If staff flag your clothing at the entrance, you may be turned away with no guarantee of rescheduling.

Security Screening

All visitors go through a security screening before entering. This includes:

  • Metal detector screening
  • Pat search for visitors 16 and older
  • Possible additional screening at officer discretion

Do not bring contraband onto facility property. Attempting to bring in drugs, alcohol, weapons, or other prohibited items is a felony and will result in arrest. This applies to your vehicle on facility property as well.

If you have a metal implant or medical device that may affect screening, bring a letter from your doctor and let staff know before you go through the detector.

Video Visits Through Getting Out

If you cannot make it to Hillsborough, Orange Correctional Center offers video visits through the Getting Out Visits app. You can access video visits at sso.gtlconnect.com or download the app on your phone.

To get started:

  1. Create a free account at sso.gtlconnect.com.
  2. Find Orange Correctional Center in the facility list.
  3. Schedule and pay for a video session.

The person inside must be on your approved visitor list for video visits as well.

Conduct During the Visit

Visits are held in the designated visitation area. During your session:

  • Stay in the area where staff direct you
  • Do not pass items to the person inside unless specifically authorized by staff in advance
  • Keep conduct calm and appropriate
  • Follow all officer instructions immediately

Visits can end early if visitors break the rules. Misconduct during a visit can affect future visit privileges.

Special Circumstances and Medical Accommodations

If you use a wheelchair, cane, or have a condition that affects how you go through security, call (919) 732-9301 before your visit. Let staff know in advance so they can make arrangements. A doctor’s letter about implants or medical devices can help the process go smoothly.

If you have a family emergency or are traveling a long distance, contact the facility in advance to ask about scheduling options. Staff can sometimes work with families in exceptional circumstances.

Parking and Getting to the Facility

Orange Correctional Center is at 2110 Clarence Walters Road, Hillsborough, NC 27278. Hillsborough is in Orange County, about 12 miles from Chapel Hill and 20 miles from Durham. Gas stations, restaurants, and hotels are available in both towns. Use the physical street address for navigation since some GPS tools may not recognize P.O. Box addresses for facility directions.

If you are coming from out of town, confirm visiting hours before you leave home. A cancelled or rescheduled session can mean a long wasted drive.

Holiday Schedule Changes

Visit schedules can shift around major holidays or during facility security events. Always call (919) 732-9301 to confirm before traveling, especially around Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, and other holidays.
