Three Ways to Send Money
Surry County Detention Center gives you three ways to put money on someone’s commissary account.
Option 1: Online at JailPackStore
Go to store.jailpackstore.com/store/index and deposit money using a credit card. This is the easiest option if you are not near the facility.
To complete an online deposit:
Go to store.jailpackstore.com/store/index.
Search for Surry County Detention Center.
Enter the person’s inmate ID number and full name.
Choose a deposit amount and enter your credit card information.
Confirm the transaction. A service fee will be shown before you confirm.
A kiosk is available at the facility at 219 Snow Street, Dobson, NC 27017. A fee applies for kiosk transactions. This fee is charged by the kiosk owner; Surry County does not receive any portion of it.
You’ll need the person’s inmate ID number to complete a kiosk transaction. Bring it written down. The kiosk may accept cash and card; confirm current payment options with the facility by calling (336) 401-8975 before making the trip.
Option 3: Mail a Money Order
Mail a money order addressed to the inmate directly to the physical facility:
[Inmate Full Name], [Inmate ID Number]Surry County Detention Center219 Snow StreetDobson, NC 27017
Important: Mail money orders to the physical facility address (219 Snow Street), not to the Greensboro PO Box used for personal mail. Using the wrong address will delay or return the money order.
Money order rules:
Money orders only. No cash, no personal checks, no cashier’s checks.
Address the money order to the inmate, not to the facility.
Write the person’s full name and inmate ID number on the memo line.
Include both on the mailing address on the envelope.
10-day hold: All money orders are held 10 days for bank clearance before the inmate can access the funds. Plan ahead if the person needs commissary access by a specific date.
What You Always Need
The inmate ID number. Every deposit method requires it. A deposit submitted with the wrong ID can be delayed, misapplied, or returned. There are no refunds for deposits made to the wrong account.
Find the inmate ID number using the Southern Software booking search at cc.southernsoftware.com/bookingsearch/index.php?AgencyID=SurryCoNC.
What the Money Covers
Funds deposited go to the inmate’s account and can be used for:
Commissary: Food, hygiene items, and other authorized purchases through McDaniel Supply Company.
Phone calls: PayTel Communications handles calls at Surry County. The person may pay for calls from their account. See the phone calls guide for how PayTel works.
Fees
A service fee applies to online and kiosk deposits. JailPackStore shows the fee before you confirm online. For kiosk fees, ask facility staff or check with the kiosk on arrival. Money order deposits by mail typically do not carry an additional processing fee, but check with the facility if you have questions.
When Funds Credit
Online and kiosk deposits typically credit to the account after the transaction is processed. Money orders mailed to the facility are held 10 days for bank clearance before the inmate can access them. Factor in mail delivery time on top of the 10-day hold when planning.
Troubleshooting a Failed Deposit
If a deposit does not appear on the account:
Check that you entered the correct inmate ID number.
Confirm the person is still in custody at Surry County (not transferred or released).
For money orders, confirm delivery to the facility and that the 10-day hold has passed.
Call the troubleshooting line at 1-912-427-9022 for deposit-related issues.
Call the facility directly at (336) 401-8975 if the deposit is still missing after the expected processing period.
Account Limits and Holds
The facility may place a hold on an account for disciplinary reasons or court-ordered obligations. If the person cannot access funds that were deposited, they should speak with housing staff. Contact the facility at (336) 401-8975 for guidance.
What Happens If the Person Is Released or Transferred
On release: The inmate receives a check or debit card for any remaining balance after applicable fees are deducted. If the banking system is unavailable at release, they must return Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to collect their balance.
On transfer: Contact the facility at (336) 401-8975 to ask about fund transfer procedures. Funds may not automatically follow the person to a different facility or county system.
