Setting Up the Account Before You Can Book Anything
There is no visiting without a Securus account, so this comes first. The county publishes two step-by-step guides, one for the mobile app and one for the website, which tells you how often people get stuck here.
The path, in the county’s own order:
- Go to the Securus site and sign up for an account.
- Choose schedule session under Securus Video Connect.
- Choose add a new facility.
- Pick Albany County In-Person.
- Submit a picture of yourself and a valid ID.
- Wait for the email that confirms or denies the request.
The county is reassuring about step 6: a request is denied only where the identification or the picture does not match what you submitted. This is an identity check, not a background check, and there is no approved-visitor list to get onto first.
Why the In-Person Option Hides Inside the Video Product
Worth saying plainly, because it is the most common wrong turn. Securus Video Connect is the menu for both kinds of visit at this jail. A family looking for something labelled in-person visiting, on the county site or in the app, will not find a separate route. You go through the video product and select the in-person facility inside it.
On the mobile app the county’s guide is explicit: the top option is for video visits, the bottom option is for in-person visits, and the location you want is listed as Visitor_In_Person.
The Three Days and the Four Slots
Visiting is available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, at these times:
| Slot | Time |
|---|
| First | 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM |
| Second | 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM |
| Third | 7:15 PM to 8:15 PM |
| Fourth | 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM |
Every slot is an hour and every slot is in the afternoon or evening. There is no morning visiting at this jail, and no weekend visiting either, which is a harder constraint than most New York county jails impose and worth planning work around.
How the Weekly Allowance Is Counted
Each person in custody may have two one hour visits a week, and the county defines the week as starting on Sunday. So two visits used on Monday and Wednesday leave nothing until the following Sunday resets the count.
From the visitor’s side the maths runs the other way. You may book as many visits as you like with different people, but not at the same time, so you cannot stack two people into one slot from your end.
Booking opens seven days before the slot and closes 24 hours before it. If the site tells you there are no time slots available, the county says that means either visiting is not running that day or the session is already full.
Bringing Someone With You
When you book, you have the option to add one additional person to the visit. That is done at booking time, not at the door, so a person who turns up unbooked is not getting in on the strength of being with you.
For anyone under 18 the requirement is specific:
- A birth certificate, and
- They must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
- If the adult bringing them is neither, that adult needs a notarized letter from the parent or legal guardian, and the letter has to carry the parent’s name, address and telephone number, the reason for the visit, the date and time of the visit, and the name of the person being visited.
That is a lot of detail to get into a notarized letter, so it is not something to arrange the morning of.
What You Can Carry, and the Scanner
Everything goes in a locker. The county’s rule is that the only item that may be in the possession of a visitor is the facility locker key, and no other items are allowed beyond the lobby area.
All visitors pass through a scanner, and failure to properly clear it results in denial of entry. Accepted identification is a valid driver’s license, a non-driver ID, a US Armed Services ID card, or a passport, and the county specifies the ID must carry your name, address, photograph, date of birth and signature.
One more rule that surprises people at a contact visit: nothing may be given to an inmate during a visit. Not money, not paperwork, not a photograph. Money goes through the routes on the send money guide and paper goes through the Clifton Park box described on the mail guide.
