Visiting Steuben County Jail

Register Every Week

Steuben asks visitors to book. You fill in a Visitation Registration Form on the Steuben County Sheriff’s app, one form for each day you want to visit.

• Submit it in the same week as the visit, Monday to Friday by 10:00 PM for a weekend visit.
• You get an email saying whether the slot is approved or denied.
• Incomplete or inaccurate forms are denied, so pick only the session you want and mark the rest N/A.

Know the Housing Unit First

Each housing unit has its own visiting times. Ask the person which unit they are on, or call the jail, before you fill in the form.

How Much, and How Many

• One hour of contact visiting, twice a week.
• No more than two visitors per visit. A child under one does not count.
• Immediate family, friends and professional visitors can come. Attorneys use separate arrangements.
• New arrivals can have a noncontact visit within 24 hours of admission, where security allows.

Arrive 30 Minutes Early

Be there 30 minutes before the visit. No more visitors are taken after that, and if you are late you will not be let in.

ID: Physical Cards Only

Only a physical DMV driver’s license or non-driver ID, a passport or a military ID. Digital state IDs are not accepted. Children without ID need a birth certificate. Anyone under 18 must come with a parent or legal guardian, with proof of guardianship.

What Not to Wear

No hooded sweatshirts, thin-strapped tank tops, low-cut tops, underwire bras or excessive jewelry.

In the Room

Stay seated once you are seated, keep children on the visitor side, and pass nothing across. Using the visiting room in breach of an order of protection brings criminal charges.

Between Visits

Pigeonly sends printed letters and photos from your phone to the jail’s scanning address, so they reach the tablet between weekends.
