J. Reuben Long Detention Center does not offer face-to-face visits. Every visit happens over video, either at a terminal in the facility lobby or on your own device at home. Major Susan Safford of the Horry County Sheriff’s Office confirmed directly to local news in late 2025 that “face-to-face visitation is not provided.”
Unlike a state prison, J. Reuben Long Detention Center has never offered contact or non-contact face-to-face visits as an option. Every visit, on-site or remote, happens through a video terminal. If you’re used to visiting a loved one at a state prison, this is a different system entirely: there’s no waiting room, no plexiglass booth, no in-person contact of any kind.

On-site visits happen from a video terminal in the facility’s lobby. These are free of charge.
Remote visits happen from your own computer or device wherever you are. These cost $0.30 per minute through the video vendor and must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance.
Either way, you get up to 4 total visits per week, combining on-site and remote visits together, not 4 of each.
As of Nov. 12, 2025, Horry County transitioned its video visitation and messaging system to NCIC Correctional Services. Register and schedule remote visits through NCIC’s platform. Video visitation was offline Nov. 3-12, 2025 during the vendor cutover, so if you had an account with the previous provider, you’ll need to re-register with NCIC.
The official Horry County page doesn’t publish specific ID requirements or a minors/children visiting policy the way SCDC’s state prison pages do. Before your first visit, call (843) 915-5140 to confirm what identification you’ll need and whether children are allowed to participate in a remote visit.
For on-site video visits from the lobby, shirts and tops are required. The facility prohibits see-through clothing, halter or tube tops, tank tops, short shorts, and mini-skirts. Visitation staff have final discretion over what’s appropriate.
Breaking a visitation rule carries escalating consequences: a first violation results in a 30-day suspension of visitation privileges, a second in 60 days, a third in 90 days, and a fourth results in permanent revocation.
Attorneys should call (843) 915-5140 and ask for the movement center to arrange a legal visit. Legal visits aren’t scheduled during the inmate count windows listed above.
