Why Felony Arrests Leave Mesquite

Mesquite Police Jail holds people during the initial booking and arraignment process. For charges beyond Class C misdemeanors, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office takes custody. Mesquite is in Dallas County, so felony and Class A/B cases go into the county system.

Once transferred, the City of Mesquite has no further involvement in custody, bond, or court proceedings for those charges.

How to Find Someone After the Transfer

If the name is no longer on the [Mesquite roster](/facility-guides/tx/mesquite-police-jail-tx/inmate-search/) at apps.cityofmesquite.com, check the Dallas County lookup:

The Dallas County system shows current custody status, charges, and bond information for everyone held at the Lew Sterrett Justice Center.

How to Post Bond for a Felony
