Mesquite Police Jail is a short-stay holding facility. It is not equipped to house people long-term on felony charges. After processing, felony and Class A/B misdemeanor arrests transfer to Dallas County Jail at the Lew Sterrett Justice Center. If someone disappears from the Mesquite roster, this is almost always where they went.
Mesquite Police Jail holds people during the initial booking and arraignment process. For charges beyond Class C misdemeanors, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office takes custody. Mesquite is in Dallas County, so felony and Class A/B cases go into the county system.
Once transferred, the City of Mesquite has no further involvement in custody, bond, or court proceedings for those charges.

Per the City of Mesquite’s official FAQ, Mesquite city employees cannot accept bonds or fines for felony or Class A/B charges. Payment must go directly to the Dallas County Sheriff.
If someone was transferred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody, the Mesquite jail will not have further information. Contact ICE directly at (214) 905-5829 for information on anyone who has been transferred into federal immigration custody.

Arraignments at Mesquite happen daily between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM, and transfers to Dallas County typically follow arraignment for felony charges.
