Visiting Hours at FCI Gilmer

The visiting schedule at FCI Gilmer comes from the facility’s BOP Admission and Orientation handbook:

FCI (main institution): Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and federal holidays, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Satellite Camp: Saturday, Sunday, and federal holidays, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Step 1. Get on the Approved Visitor List

The person must submit a visitor application for you, and the BOP must approve you before your first visit. This process can take several weeks. Do not travel to FCI Gilmer until you are confirmed. The person can ask their case manager for the visitor application process.

Step 2. Call Before You Travel

Even with confirmed hours, visits can be suspended due to institutional needs, staffing, or emergencies. Call (304) 462-7591 before your trip to confirm your visit is still on.

What to Bring

Bring one valid government-issued photo ID: driver’s license, state ID, military ID, or passport. Expired IDs are not accepted. BOP facilities have a dress code for visitors. Avoid anything revealing, and do not wear clothing that resembles an inmate or staff uniform. Leave phones and bags in your car.

Know the Location

FCI Gilmer is in Gilmer County, a rural area of central West Virginia near Glenville. From Charleston it is about 1.5 hours north. Plan extra time for rural roads.
