Overview
The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office publishes one inmate roster covering everyone in county custody. It confirms that a person is in custody and gives you their jacket number, which is the ID you need for a deposit and for addressing mail. What it does not do is tell you which jail they are in, and its per-person detail link is currently broken. Both of those are worth knowing before you start, and there is a working alternative for custody status.
Quick Facts

5 The per-person View link currently returns no details
6 VINE is the working alternative: 877-411-5588, TTY 866-847-1298
7 VINE is free, 24 hours a day, in English and Spanish
8 Jail line: 559-735-1700
What the Roster Gives You
The search returns a single list of everyone currently in Tulare County custody. On the day we checked it held 1,388 records.
Each row carries the jacket number, which is Tulare County’s inmate ID, along with last, first and middle name, any suffix, date of birth, booking date, and the arresting agency. You can page through 10, 25, 50 or 100 records at a time.
The jacket number is the thing to write down. Access Corrections needs it before it will take a deposit, and the mail routing needs it on the envelope.
It Will Not Tell You Which Jail
There is no facility column and no facility filter, only one search box and a page-size control. Tulare County runs more than one detention facility, so a result confirms county custody and nothing more specific.
That matters here more than it might elsewhere. Bob Wiley is at 36712 Road 112 in Visalia. The Pre-Trial Facility and South County Detention Facility are separate buildings with their own arrangements, and the free on-site video visits the county advertises apply only to South County. Turning up at the wrong building, or booking the wrong kind of visit, both start with this gap.
Calling 559-735-1700 is how to settle it.
The Broken Detail Link
Every row in the roster carries a View link that should open a person’s record and charges. It does not work. It returns a page saying no inmate details were found and no charges were found, and it does this on freshly loaded records rather than only on stale ones.
We tested it several ways to be sure it was not a temporary glitch on one record. So if you click through and get an empty page, nothing is wrong on your end and the person has not been released.
Use VINE for Custody Status
VINE is the free statewide service for custody and release information, and it is the practical workaround while the roster’s detail view is down.
Phone: 877-411-5588
TTY: 866-847-1298
Free, 24 hours a day, in English and Spanish
VINE can also register you for notifications about a change in custody status, which is more useful than checking a roster repeatedly.
If They Do Not Come Up
Try less of the name. One search box means a surname alone often works better than a full name with a middle initial.
Try spelling variants. A middle name used as a first name, a maiden name, a hyphenated surname typed as one word.
Give it time. The county publishes no update frequency for the roster, so someone booked in the last few hours may not be listed yet.
Check the agency. Tulare County covers several cities. Someone arrested by a city police department may be held elsewhere before any transfer.
Once You Have Found Them
Write down the jacket number and the name exactly as the roster spells it. Then confirm the building by phone before you plan anything, because the visiting arrangements, and even the address you use for a package, depend on which facility they are actually in.

Q
How do I find someone in Tulare County jail?
Use the Sheriff's Office inmate search on tularecounty.ca.gov. It covers everyone in county custody and returns a jacket number, name, date of birth, booking date and arresting agency. If they do not appear, call 559-735-1700 or use VINE at 877-411-5588.

Q
Will the search tell me if they are at Bob Wiley?
No. The roster has no facility column and no facility filter. It confirms Tulare County custody but not which building. Since the county runs several detention facilities with different visiting arrangements, confirm the location at 559-735-1700 before travelling.

Q
I clicked View and got an empty page. What happened?
That link is broken. It returns a page saying no inmate details and no charges were found, and it does so even on records loaded seconds earlier. It is not a sign that your person was released. Use VINE at 877-411-5588 for custody status instead.

Q
What is a jacket number?
It is Tulare County's inmate ID number, shown as the first column of the roster. You need it to deposit money through Access Corrections and to address mail correctly, so write it down along with the exact spelling of the name.

Q
How often does the roster update?
The county does not publish an update frequency. Someone booked within the last few hours may not be listed yet. If it matters today, call 559-735-1700.

Q
What is VINE and does it cost anything?
VINE is a free custody-status service, available 24 hours a day in English and Spanish, at 877-411-5588 or TTY 866-847-1298. Tulare County links it from its own site. It can also notify you when someone's custody status changes.
