Search by name or KY DOC number at kool.corrections.ky.gov to find someone at Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex.
Overview
The Kentucky Online Offender Lookup, known as KOOL, is the official tool for finding anyone in Kentucky state custody. If your loved one is at Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex, their record will show the facility name and their KY DOC number. That number is what you need for everything: sending money through Access Corrections, addressing mail correctly, setting up a Securus account for phone calls and video visits, and getting on the approved visitor list.
Quick Facts
Official lookup tool: Kentucky Online Offender Lookup (KOOL) at kool.corrections.ky.gov
Search by full legal name or KY DOC number
Results show current facility, DOC number, sentence information, and projected release date
The DOC number is required for sending money, mail, phone calls, and visitor approval
If a transfer happened recently, allow 1 to 2 business days for the record to update
You can also call (606) 743-2800 to confirm placement if the record has not updated yet
How to Use KOOL
Go to kool.corrections.ky.gov and search using the person’s full legal name. You can also search directly by their KY DOC number if you already have it.
The search results show:
Current facility name and location
KY DOC number
Sentence information and offenses
Projected parole eligibility or release date
Photo (when available)
If the search returns no results, try different name spellings. If your loved one was recently sentenced or transferred, give the system one to two business days to update before calling the facility.
What the KY DOC Number Is Used For
The KY DOC number is the unique identifier assigned to everyone in Kentucky state custody. It stays the same through the entire sentence, even across facility transfers.
You need the DOC number for:
Sending money: Access Corrections requires the name and DOC number to route your deposit correctly.
Mailing letters: Include the DOC number on every envelope so mail reaches the right person.
Phone calls and video visits: Securus uses the DOC number to connect your account to the inmate’s.
Visitor approval: Staff use the DOC number when processing your visitor application.
If the Record Shows a Different Facility
KOOL is updated regularly but may not reflect a transfer immediately. If the record shows a facility other than Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex, either the transfer hasn’t been processed yet or your loved one may have been moved again. Call EKCC at (606) 743-2800 to confirm their current placement before mailing, sending money, or making the drive.
EKCC vs. Federal Facilities
Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex is a state prison run by the Kentucky Department of Corrections. It is not a federal facility. If your search on KOOL comes up empty, it may be because the person is held in a federal facility (BOP), which uses a separate system. Federal inmates can be searched at bop.gov/inmateloc/. State and federal systems are not connected.
