Overview

Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex in West Liberty runs two in-person visiting sessions each day. Session 1 is from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and Session 2 is from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Visits must be scheduled at least one week in advance and you must be on the approved visitor list before arriving. Each inmate gets 3 in-person visits per month. Video visits through Securus are also available Monday through Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Before making the drive to West Liberty, call (606) 743-2800 to confirm your approval status and that the schedule has not changed.

Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex holds two visiting sessions each day:

Arriving before the opening of the arrival window means you will wait outside. Arriving after the closing of the arrival window means you will be turned away. Plan accordingly.

How to Schedule a Visit

Monthly Visiting Limit

Each General Population inmate at EKCC is allowed 3 in-person visits per month. Video visits through Securus are separate and do not count against the in-person limit. A General Population inmate can also receive up to 3 video visits per month.

Approved Visitor List

You must be on the approved visitor list before your first visit. Contact the facility at (606) 743-2800 to ask about the visitor approval process and what form or documentation is required.

The visiting page notes that it is the inmate’s responsibility to notify their visitors about any changes to visiting privileges. If privileges have been restricted, the inmate should communicate that to you directly before you make the trip.

Visitor Limits Per Visit

A maximum of 3 visitors are allowed per contact visit. Children who can walk independently count as one of the three visitors. Infants who cannot walk do not count toward the limit.

If you need to bring more than 3 people, additional family members will need to visit in a separate scheduled session.

Restroom Policy

You must use the restroom before entering the visiting area. If you leave the visiting area for any reason, including to use the restroom, your visit ends for that session. Plan ahead. If you have a documented medical condition that requires restroom access, contact the facility in advance to arrange accommodations.

Visitor Dress Code

EKCC enforces a strict dress code. Staff may deny entry if your clothing does not comply. Visitors who are turned away are responsible for their own travel costs.

Prohibited clothing:

  • Shorts, dresses, or skirts more than 2 inches above the knee when standing
  • Sleeveless shirts, tank tops, halter tops, or tube tops
  • See-through, excessively tight, or provocative clothing
  • Spandex, leggings, or yoga pants worn as the outermost garment (permitted only under a compliant skirt or pants)
  • Clothing with obscene language, gang insignia, or offensive imagery
  • Head coverings of any type (religious head coverings are permitted but subject to search)
  • Visible undergarments

Footwear is required at all times. Shirts must fully cover shoulders, cleavage, and midriff.

What You Can Bring In

Visitors are allowed to bring:

  • Up to $30, in $1 bills and silver change only, carried in a clear plastic bag or coin purse
  • 1 watch, 1 ring, 1 necklace (with or without one medallion), 1 pair of earrings. No bracelets.

The following items must be left in the front lobby lockers before entering the visiting area:

  • Vehicle keys
  • Jackets and sweaters
  • Umbrellas

Nothing may be passed to or from the inmate during a visit.

Physical Contact

A brief hug and kiss are permitted at the start and end of each visit. Sexual activity or stimulation of any kind is strictly prohibited. There are no conjugal visits at EKCC.

Children

Infants from 0 to 1 year of age may be held by the inmate during the visit. All other children must remain seated or held by the visiting parent or guardian at all times. Children who can walk independently count toward the 3-visitor maximum per visit.

Video Visitation

Video visits at EKCC run through Securus Technologies. They are a good option for families who cannot make the drive to West Liberty or who want to stay in touch between in-person visits.
