KOOL is Kentucky’s official public inmate search database, maintained by the Kentucky Department of Corrections. It covers all KDOC inmates, including those held at CoreCivic-operated facilities like Lee Adjustment Center. Here’s how to use it.
Step 1: Go to kool.corrections.ky.gov. The search form is on the homepage. No login is required.
Step 2: Enter the last name and first initial. KDOC recommends searching by last name and first initial only. Adding a full first name can cause misses if it was entered differently in the system.
Step 3: Filter by facility if you get too many results. Use the facility filter and select Lee Adjustment Center to narrow the list.
Step 4: Click the name to view the full record. The record shows current facility, photo (if available), DOC number, conviction history (last 10 convictions), sentencing information, and projected release date.
Step 5: Write down the DOC number. You’ll need it to send money through Access Corrections, to correctly address letters, and to set up phone access.
If a search on KOOL doesn’t return the person you’re looking for, a few things may have happened.
They may have been recently transferred. KOOL updates four times a day, so a transfer earlier the same day may not show yet. Try again in a few hours.
They may have been recently released. If the person was released recently, they may no longer appear in KOOL or may show a completed status.
If you’ve searched and still can’t find the person, call Lee Adjustment Center directly at (606) 464-2866. Staff can confirm whether someone is currently housed there.
The KDOC DOC number is the key identifier for everything else. You need it to deposit money through Access Corrections at accesscorrections.com, to address letters correctly (the number goes on the envelope), and to set up access through the facility’s phone system. Getting the DOC number from KOOL is the first step.
