Randolph Correctional Center Inmate Search. Find Someone with NC OPI

Confirm they are at Randolph CC and get the OPUS number you need for everything else.

Overview

To find someone at Randolph Correctional Center, use the NC Offender Public Information (OPI) search at webapps.doc.state.nc.us/opi/offendersearch.do?method=view. It is the official, free search tool run by the NC Department of Adult Correction. Once you confirm the person is at Randolph CC, write down their OPUS number. You will need it to send money, mail letters, and fill out the visitor application.

Quick Facts

  • Official tool: NC Offender Public Information (OPI) at webapps.doc.state.nc.us/opi/offendersearch.do?method=view.
  • Search by first name, last name, or OPUS number.
  • OPUS is NC DAC's unique offender number. Write it down. You need it for money, mail, and visits.
  • The OPI tool covers all NC state prisons, including Randolph Correctional Center.
  • If the person was recently transferred, give the record 24 to 48 hours to update.
  • The search is free. No account is required.

Go to webapps.doc.state.nc.us/opi/offendersearch.do?method=view. You can search by:

  • First and last name
  • OPUS number (if you already have it)

Enter what you know and submit. The tool returns a list of matching records within the NC state prison system, including anyone currently housed at Randolph Correctional Center.

What the Search Shows

When you find the right person, the record typically shows:

  • Full legal name as it appears in the NC DAC system
  • OPUS number: the unique identifier NC assigns to every person in state custody
  • Current facility: this will say Randolph Correctional Center if they are housed there
  • Custody level and sentence information
  • Projected release date in some cases

Write down the OPUS number. Every interaction with the system, deposits, letters, and visitor applications, requires it.

Why Someone Might Not Appear

If you search and do not find the person, here are the most common reasons:

Just transferred or admitted: The NC OPI system updates regularly, but a record may take 24 to 48 hours to appear after a new admission or transfer. Try again the next day.

Name spelling: Try a partial name or alternate spelling. If their legal name differs from what you know them by, use the legal version.

Not in NC state custody: If the person was recently sentenced, they may still be in county jail custody and not yet transferred to NC DAC. County jail inmates do not appear in the NC OPI system. Contact the county jail directly.

Transferred out of Randolph CC: They may have moved to a different NC state prison. The OPI tool shows the current facility. If it lists a different location, they are no longer at Randolph CC.

Released: If their sentence ended, they will not appear in OPI as an active record.

If you still cannot find them, call Randolph Correctional Center at (336) 625-2578.

What the OPUS Number Is Used For

Once you have the OPUS number, you can:

  • Send money through ViaPath/ConnectNetwork. Every deposit requires the name and OPUS number. See the send money guide.
  • Send mail through TextBehind. The OPUS number goes on every letter. See the mail guide.
  • Apply to visit. The visitor application form requires the person’s name and OPUS number. See the visitation guide.

About the NC OPI System

The NC Offender Public Information system is maintained by the NC Department of Adult Correction. It covers everyone in NC state prison custody, including people at minimum-custody facilities like Randolph Correctional Center, as well as people in medium and close custody across the state.

The system does not include people in county jails, federal custody, or on probation. If the person is in federal prison, search at bop.gov/inmateloc/ instead.

Special Note: Long Term Care Unit

Randolph CC has a 68-bed Long Term Care unit for residents with medical needs who are not ready for general population. People in the LTC unit will still appear in the OPI system under Randolph Correctional Center. However, visiting procedures for LTC residents may differ. If the OPI record shows Randolph CC and you plan to visit, call (336) 625-2578 to ask whether the person is in LTC and whether any different procedures apply.
