Two Different Addresses: Do Not Mix Them Up
Randolph Correctional Center has two addresses that serve different purposes. Using the wrong one means your mail may not reach the person.
Personal mail (letters, cards, photos): Goes to TextBehind in Maryland, not to Asheboro. See the address format below.
Books, publications, and approved packages: Go to the facility’s street address in Asheboro, NC.
Institutional/official correspondence: Goes to the facility mailing address at Box 4128, Asheboro, NC 27204. This is not for personal inmate mail.
How to Send Personal Mail Through TextBehind
TextBehind is the mail processing service NC DAC uses for personal correspondence. Here is how it works:
- Write your letter or card on plain paper
- Include photos if allowed (see photo rules below)
- Put the letter in an envelope addressed to TextBehind in the format below
- Mail it from any USPS mailbox or post office
Personal mail address format:
Randolph Correctional Center
[Full Legal Name, OPUS Number]
P.O. Box 247
Phoenix, MD 21131
The OPUS number goes on the same line as the name, separated by a comma. This is how TextBehind connects your letter to the right person. Find the OPUS number with the NC OPI offender search.
Return address: Always write your full name and return address on the envelope. Mail without a return address may be refused.
What Happens to Your Mail
TextBehind opens and inspects all incoming mail for contraband, prohibited content, and policy violations. Approved mail is either scanned and delivered electronically to the person’s account, or printed and delivered as a paper copy, depending on the facility’s arrangement with TextBehind.
Mail that violates policy is not forwarded. The person may be notified, or the mail may be returned to you, depending on the reason.
Sending Photos
Many NC DAC facilities allow standard 4x6 photo prints when sent through TextBehind. General rules that apply at most NC facilities:
- Photos must be printed, not Polaroids
- No nudity, sexual content, or explicit images
- No gang symbols, weapons, or drug imagery
- No photos with cash or contraband visible
However, rules can change. Call (336) 625-2578 before sending photos to confirm current photo policy at Randolph CC.
Sending Cards and Letters
Plain cards and letters are generally accepted through TextBehind. Avoid:
- Cards with glitter, stickers, or attachments (TextBehind cannot scan them properly)
- Envelopes with padding or multiple layers
- Anything other than paper inside the envelope
Keep it simple. A plain white envelope with a handwritten or printed letter is the safest approach.
Sending Books and Publications
Books and publications do not go through TextBehind. Send them directly to the facility:
[Name, OPUS#]
Randolph Correctional Center
2760 US 220 Hwy. Business
Asheboro, NC 27203
Books must typically come directly from a publisher or bookstore. Call (336) 625-2578 to confirm current book and publication policies before sending.
Ordering Packages
Approved packages can be ordered through the NC Inmate Package Program at ncinmatepackage.com. This program lets you select and purchase pre-approved items that are shipped directly to the facility. You cannot mail personal packages to the street address.
Legal Mail
Legal mail (from attorneys, courts, or government agencies) is not processed through TextBehind. Legal mail has a different inspection procedure: it is typically opened in the presence of the person rather than inspected separately.
If you need to send legal documents, contact Randolph Correctional Center at (336) 625-2578 to get the correct procedures and address for legal correspondence. Do not route legal mail through TextBehind.
What Not to Send
Never send:
- Cash (use ConnectNetwork to deposit money)
- Checks or money orders in personal mail
- Contraband of any kind (drugs, weapons, alcohol)
- Items with excessive glitter, stickers, or attachments
- Packages to the TextBehind P.O. Box (books and packages go to Asheboro)
Mail Processing Time
TextBehind processes mail and delivers it within a few business days in most cases. Actual delivery time depends on mail volume and processing schedules. If the person has not received something after 10 days, call (336) 625-2578 to inquire.
What to Do if Mail Is Rejected
If your mail is rejected by TextBehind, it may be returned to you with a note explaining the reason. Common reasons include prohibited content, no return address, or formatting issues. Fix the issue and resend, or call (336) 625-2578 if you are unsure why mail was refused.
Send Photos and Letters with Pigeonly
The easiest way to send photos and letters to someone at Randolph Correctional Center is through Pigeonly. Upload your photos or write your letter online, and Pigeonly prints and mails everything to the facility for you, following the mail rules listed above.
