Why NCIC Handles Both Calls and Visits

Stanly County contracts with NCIC for both phone calls and video visitation. This means one account at ncic.com covers both services. If you’ve already set up NCIC for visits, your number may already be in the system. You may just need to fund the call balance separately.

This is a real convenience. Most jails use different vendors for calls and visits, which means two accounts, two apps, and two billing setups. At Stanly County, it’s one.

Step 1. Create an NCIC Account

Go to ncic.com and create a free account. You’ll need:

  • Your email address
  • A password
  • Your phone number (the number you want the person to call)

You can also call 800-943-2189 to set up the account with a live agent. Note that live-agent setup adds a one-time $5.95 fee. Setting up online avoids this fee.

Step 2. Select Stanly County Detention Center

Once logged in, search for North Carolina in the facility selector, then find Stanly County Detention Center. Link the person in custody to your account using their name and inmate ID. See the inmate search guide to find their booking number.

Step 3. Fund Your Account

Calls are not free. You need money in your NCIC account before calls can connect.

Rates:

  • Prepaid collect: $0.21 per minute
  • Non-prepaid: $0.25 per minute

Deposit fee: $3.00 per funding transaction. This is charged on top of the balance you add.

For example, if you add $20 to your account, you’re charged $20 + $3.00 = $23.00. That $20 balance covers about 95 minutes of prepaid collect calls.

The person inside can also pay for calls from their own commissary account, which you can fund through JailPackStore.

Call Hours

Calls are available from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Phones are turned off during scheduled meal times. If a call doesn’t connect during those hours, wait a few minutes and try again. The person may be at a meal, in a program, or in a restricted period.

How Calls Work

The person inside picks up a jail phone and dials your approved number through the NCIC system. You can’t call in to the facility to reach them directly. They have to call you.

When the call comes in, you’ll hear a recorded prompt from NCIC telling you it’s a call from Stanly County Detention Center. Accept the call to connect. Calls are monitored and recorded for security purposes.

Numbers That Can and Can’t Be Called

Only approved phone numbers receive calls. The person inside has to add your number to their approved call list, and numbers may be subject to review. If your number is flagged or blocked for any reason, the call won’t go through.

Numbers that typically cannot be called:

  • Attorney numbers may be subject to different rules. In some cases, calls to attorneys are not recorded, but confirm this directly with the facility.
  • Some VoIP and prepaid numbers may be blocked. If calls fail consistently from a specific number, try a different number or contact NCIC at 800-943-2189.

Blocked Numbers

If calls from the jail aren’t reaching you, check whether your carrier blocks calls from correctional facilities. Some phone carriers do this by default. Contact your carrier and ask them to unblock calls from correctional institutions, or contact NCIC for a bypass option.

Messaging Through NCIC

NCIC also supports text-style messaging through the jail’s tablet system. This is separate from phone calls but runs on the same platform. If you want to send messages between visits and calls, log in to your NCIC account and look for messaging options tied to Stanly County.

Video Visits Through the Same Account

Because NCIC handles both calls and video visits at Stanly County, your call account also links to the video visit platform. See the visitation guide for how to schedule a video session through NCIC.

If Calls Aren’t Working

  • Confirm your number is funded and listed in your NCIC account.
  • Check call hours. Calls are off before 8 AM and after 5 PM, and during meals.
  • Ask your carrier whether calls from correctional facilities are blocked.
  • Call NCIC support at 800-943-2189.
  • Call the facility at (704) 986-3739 if you think there’s an issue on the facility’s end.
