Three Places to Send Money, and They Are Not Interchangeable

There is no Broome County roster. The Sheriff's own sidebar points at the VINE system, which is a custody notification service covering New York county jails and searches by name or identification number. Alongside it the county keeps two staffed routes that a notification system cannot replace: jail inquiries on the main line, and an Inmate Records unit with its own direct numbers.

Broome runs visiting without appointments, which is rare, and lets the incarcerated person arrange their own times rather than the family booking. What almost nobody realises is that two different schedules exist. General housing has windows on all five weekdays. The I/Max-Female track sits with Special Housing, D-Pod, Restricted and Medical on a Tuesday and Wednesday schedule roughly a quarter the size.

Post goes to a box in Binghamton rather than to the jail's own street address, which is the single most common addressing mistake here. For anything digital the county names PrintBudii, a service that prints letters and photographs on machines inside the facility mailroom rather than scanning them, so a photo arrives as a four by six print. What the county does not publish is the ordinary postal rulebook.

Three destinations, and they are genuinely different systems. Commissary deposits run through Access Corrections. Bail runs through GovPayNet under payment location code 1657, with a dedicated phone line. Civil Division payments use payment location code 5900 and a different number again. Tablet and messaging credit is a fourth thing, handled by the tablet vendor rather than by either of those.

The county publishes a vendor name it retired in 2022 alongside a working phone number, which sends families searching for a company that no longer trades under that name. The current company is ViaPath Technologies, and the tablet, messaging and video side runs under its GettingOut product. Rates, call limits and monitoring policy are not published on either side.

Families Also Ask

6 of 8 questions

Q

Who books the visit, me or them?

You do not. Broome County states that it is the responsibility of each incarcerated person to set up their own visiting times, so the arrangement happens inside the jail rather than through a family phone line or a web form. Appointments were dropped altogether in January 2023. You turn up during a window your person has already claimed.

Visitation
Q

Why do the visiting hours look different depending on where I read them?

Because two versions of the county's own page are in circulation. An older address still serves a 2023 copy of the schedule, complete with afternoon slots that no longer exist and a different visit allowance. The current page is on broomecountyny.gov, and it is the one carrying the 2026 reports. That is how we settled which is live.

Visitation
Q

Is the visiting schedule the same for everyone?

No, and this is the biggest thing families get wrong here. General housing has windows on all five weekdays, adding up to roughly 33 hours. The I/Max-Female track shares its schedule with Special Housing, D-Pod, Restricted and Medical, and that track runs Tuesday and Wednesday only, roughly 8 hours in total.

Visitation
Q

Where do I send a letter?

To P.O. Box 2047, Binghamton, NY 13902-2047, with the person's name on it. Not to 155 Lt. VanWinkle Drive, which is where the building is but not where post goes. Those two addresses being different is a common and avoidable mistake.

Mail & Photos
Q

Is there an online roster for Broome County?

The county does not publish one. Its own navigation points families at the VINE system for custody status instead, and it keeps two staffed phone routes for inmate records: 607-778-1911 and press 2 for jail inquiries, or Inmate Records directly on 607-778-6007.

Inmate Search
Q

Do I need the Sheriff's app?

No. It is a real, official app published for the Sheriff's Office and it does a lot of things in one place, including inmate status, bail, commissary deposits and sending mail. But every one of those has a standalone web route, and visits are arranged inside the jail regardless. Treat it as convenience, never as a required step.

Inmate Search
Q

How much visiting time is allowed each week?

Up to two hours a week in total, in sessions of no less than 30 minutes and no more than two hours. The time cannot be split across different days. Disciplinary offences can cost up to an hour of that weekly allowance.

Visitation
Q

Can I be turned away even though there is no appointment system?

Yes, on numbers. Between 8:00 AM and 2:30 PM the county caps the visiting area at ten adult visitors at any one time, first come first served. A daytime visit on a busy morning can fail for that reason alone, which is a good argument for the evening windows if your schedule allows.
