Walk In, No Appointments

Cayuga’s visitor sheet is direct about it: all visits are walk-in only. There are no scheduled appointments, and visits are given on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Visiting Periods

DaysTimes
MorningSunday to Friday9:45 AM to 10:45 AM, and 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM
EveningMonday, Wednesday, Saturday3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Saturday has evening visits only. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday have morning visits only. Monday and Wednesday have both.

The 15 Minute Rule

You must be checked in at least 15 minutes before the visiting period starts. Miss that and you will not get a visit, even if there is space. You cannot join once a period has begun. The sheet’s own advice is to arrive early.

Identification

  • Adults: a valid photo ID, such as a driver’s license, passport, military ID, DHS or immigration ID, or law enforcement ID.
  • Children under 18: an original birth certificate, not a copy, and they must come with a parent or be visiting a parent.

Metal, and the Two-Strike Detector

No metal is allowed, including steel-toe shoes, underwire bras and body piercings. Set off the detector once and you go to the back of the line to remove the item. Set it off a second time and the visit is over.

Medical devices are allowed only with written proof from a doctor, at every visit. No proof, no visit.

What Not to Wear or Bring

  • Clothing: sleeveless or see-through tops, short shorts or skirts, hats, scarves, headgear, hoodies, jackets or outerwear.
  • Items: bags, carriers, gum, food and drinks.
  • Accessories: jewelry other than a wedding set, hair ties, clips and beads.

Leave everything in your car or a locker. Staff will not hold belongings.

Conduct

A closed-mouth kiss at the start and end only. An open-mouth kiss ends the visit immediately. Anyone who seems intoxicated or smells of alcohol will be refused.

Getting There

The jail is at 7445 County House Road in Auburn, the main lobby line is 315-253-2911. It is a different place from Auburn Correctional Facility, the state prison in the city, so check the address before you set off.

Between Visits

A short walk-in visit leaves long gaps. Pigeonly sends printed letters and photos from your phone to the jail, with the person’s number on the envelope.
