The ways to confirm someone is at the Cayuga County Jail in Auburn are New York’s VINE service, which takes a name, and the jail’s main line. The other thing to get right is the building, because Auburn Correctional Facility and Cayuga Correctional Facility are both state prisons with their own search.
The search New York points families to is VINE, the state’s custody notification service. It takes a first and last name and shows whether that person is held in a New York county jail, and it can send you an alert when their custody status changes.
If VINE has nothing and the arrest was recent, call the jail on 315-253-2911. Booking takes time, and the phone is the quickest answer in the first hours.

If the person has been sentenced to state prison time, they will move out of the county jail and into the DOCCS system, and from then the Auburn or Cayuga Correctional Facility guides apply.
The Sheriff describes the jail as a direct-supervision, maximum-security, 214-bed facility. People are held pretrial, after conviction while awaiting sentence, or serving a county sentence. The jail also holds parole violators and people waiting to be moved to a state prison.
It takes people from other agencies too: the U.S. Marshals Service, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and parts of the Department of Homeland Security, including Border Patrol and ICE. Someone held for a federal agency may also show in that agency’s own locator.
Staff can confirm whether someone is in custody and explain bail. They do not take messages for the people held here. For bail amounts and the details needed to pay online, the Sheriff points to the same number, 315-253-2911.
Write down their full name and any jail number they give you, because the mail address uses it. Pigeonly sends letters and photos to the Cayuga County Jail from your phone, addressed to County House Road with the number in place.
