Q
What address do I use to write to someone at Clinton?
P.O. Box 2001, Dannemora, NY 12929, with their full name and DIN on the envelope and your return address in the top left. The prison's own address uses P.O. Box 2000, one digit away, and that box is for the facility rather than for a person in custody.

Q
What are the visiting hours?
Daily, 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with the latest arrival at 2:00 PM. Clinton is one of only three New York state prisons that visit every day including weekday holidays. Weekdays are open to all, and each weekend day belongs to last names A to M or N to Z. Someone in APPU, the Special Housing Unit or Long-Term Protective Custody follows a shorter day, closing at 2:30 PM.

Q
What does APPU stand for?
The Assessment and Program Preparation Unit. New York's own regulations name it and place it at Clinton specifically, so it is not a general unit type found across the system. Visits to APPU, the Special Housing Unit and Long-Term Protective Custody all close at 2:30 PM rather than 3:00 PM.
Visitation
Q
How many people can visit?
Three visitors plus one child under the age of five, with the child sitting on an adult's lap. Each person may have one visit per day.

Q
Is this the same as Clinton County Jail?
No. Clinton Correctional Facility is a New York state prison at Dannemora on 518-492-2511. Clinton County Jail is run by the Sheriff at 25 McCarthy Drive, Plattsburgh, on 518-565-4300, about fifteen miles away in the same county. Mail, money and visiting work differently at each.
Inmate Search
Q
Is the address Route 374 or Cook Street?
Route 374. Both DOCCS and the Village of Dannemora, the prison's host municipality, give 1156 Route 374. Map and review listings showing 1156 Cook Street are not correct.

Q
How much do phone calls cost?
Nothing. New York made every call from a state prison free to families on August 1, 2025. Three calls of up to fifteen minutes are credited each Saturday, calls after those run to thirty minutes, and the window is 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM across fifteen approved numbers.
Phone Calls
Q
Where does money go?
To the JPay lockbox at PO Box 531190, Miami, Florida 33153, with a deposit slip, free by post and capped at $999.99 a transaction. There is also a visitor lockbox at the prison taking up to $50 cash per person per day. Money never goes in the envelope.

Q
Could my visit be cut short?
If the visiting room fills, yes, and there is a published order. Volunteers are asked first, then visitors living within 100 miles are ended after three hours on a first in first out basis, then people who travelled further. Anyone visiting someone who has not had a visit in six months is considered separately by the Superintendent or Officer of the Day.
