Q
What address do I use to write to someone at Coxsackie?
P.O. Box 999, Coxsackie, NY 12051-0999, with the person's full name and DIN on the envelope and your return address in the top left. Do not use P.O. Box 200, which is the facility's business box, and do not use 11260 Route 9W, which is the street address you drive to for a visit.

Q
What are the visiting hours?
9:00 AM to 3:15 PM, with a latest arrival time of 2:00 PM. Visiting runs on weekends and, since May 4, 2026, on Wednesdays. Weekend dates alternate between surnames A to L and M to Z, while Wednesdays are open to everyone regardless of surname.

Q
Can I visit twice in one day?
Yes. Coxsackie publishes a maximum of two visits per day, which is more generous than most New York prisons. Green Haven allows one a day and Auburn publishes no daily cap at all. Each visit is capped at three adult visitors plus one child under five who sits on a lap.

Q
Do I need to apply before visiting?
No. New York operates no visitor application and no approved-visitor list anywhere in the state. Bring current photo identification and arrive before the 2:00 PM cutoff. Every visitor passes a body image scanner for a contact visit, and declining means a non-contact visit rather than no visit.

Q
Is this the same prison as Greene Correctional Facility?
No, and they are minutes apart with almost the same phone number. Coxsackie Correctional Facility is maximum security at 11260 Route 9W, on 518-731-2781. Greene Correctional Facility is medium security at 165 Plank Road, on 518-731-2741. Both use a Coxsackie, NY 12051 mailing town. Greene also uses a completely different visiting system, split by DIN rather than surname.

Q
How much do phone calls cost?
Nothing. New York made all calls from state prisons free on August 1, 2025, and there is no longer a provider account for families to open or fund. Each person gets three calls a week of up to fifteen minutes credited on Saturdays, then calls run up to thirty minutes, between 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM.

Q
Why is someone here who is classified higher than medium?
Coxsackie is a maximum security prison and accepts maximum AB or lower under DOCCS Directive 0048. That is actually narrower than Auburn and Green Haven, which accept any classification. It also holds people transferred in for medical care at its Regional Medical Unit, so a person may be here temporarily for treatment rather than placement.

Q
Can I send a package?
Not yourself. New York allows packages only from approved vendors, shipped by USPS, FedEx or UPS, and nothing can be brought to a visit or posted by a family member. The limits are three food packages a month at 40 pounds combined and two non-food packages a year. DOCCS publishes a disapproved vendor list rather than an approved one.

Q
Is there a Family Reunion Program at Coxsackie?
No. Coxsackie does not appear on the DOCCS Family Reunion Program facility list, unlike Auburn and Green Haven which both take part. If extended family visiting matters to you, that is worth knowing before a transfer request rather than after one.
