Overview

Phone and video at the Justice Center both run through one vendor, ICSolutions. Calls come out to you rather than in, and your person cannot dial at all until they have two pieces of information. Knowing what those are, and passing them on, is the first practical step.

Quick Facts

  • 1 The vendor is ICSolutions, on 888-506-8407
  • 2 Accounts are set up at www.ICSolutions.com
  • 3 Calls out of the jail are collect
  • 4 Your person needs their control number and a four digit code to dial
  • 5 The control number is printed on their booking wristband
  • 6 Call length is set by the deputy on the pod
  • 7 Four numbers are free to call
  • 8 Video visits cost 7.50 dollars for 30 minutes

Set Up an Account

The account belongs to you, not to them. Calls arrive collect, so without funds on your side the phone does not connect.

The same vendor handles video, so one account covers both.

They Need Two Things to Dial

This is the part families most often do not know, and it is why a first call sometimes never comes.

Your person needs their Inmate Control Number and a four digit code before they can use a phone at all.

The control number is printed on the wristband they were given at booking. If they have lost it or cannot read it, it is also the second column of any result in the county lookup, so you can find it and pass it to them on a visit or in a letter.

How Long a Call Lasts

The county’s handbook puts it as a reasonable time limit on phones, as defined by the pod deputy.

In practice that means it varies by unit and by how many people are waiting.

Four Free Numbers

The handbook lists four numbers that carry no charge:

WhoWhy it matters
Jail MinistryPastoral support, on 315-424-1877
Human Rights CommissionComplaints and rights questions
New York State ParoleParole matters
Vera HouseDomestic and sexual violence support

Everything else runs through your ICSolutions account.

Video Visits

Video runs through the same vendor:

  • 7.50 dollars for 30 minutes
  • Not available to anyone in administrative or punitive segregation

For a family outside Syracuse this is often more realistic than in person visiting, because the in person rounds are narrow and rotate by floor. The visiting guide has that schedule.

Where the Voice Rate Comes From

ICSolutions publishes rates when you set up an account with the facility selected, and that is the accurate source. 888-506-8407 will also quote them.

Calls Do Not Come In

There is no way to call your person directly. Calls go out from the jail to a number you have funded, and that is the only direction.

For anything urgent, such as a death in the family, the route is the Justice Center on 315-435-1770 and asking for the shift supervisor.

If They Have Moved to Jamesville

Onondaga County’s other jail, the Correctional Facility at 6660 East Seneca Turnpike in Jamesville, uses the same vendor but is a separate facility in the system.

So the ICSolutions account carries over, though the facility selection changes, and the visiting and video schedules there are different. Jamesville answers on 315-435-5581.

Q

Why has my person not called me yet?

Often because they cannot. They need their Inmate Control Number and a four digit code before they can dial at all. The control number is printed on the wristband from booking, and if they have lost it you can read it off the county lookup and pass it to them in a letter or on a visit.

Phone Calls
Q

Can I call into the jail to speak to them?

No. Calls only go outward, from the jail to a number you have funded. For an emergency such as a death in the family, call the Justice Center on 315-435-1770 and ask for the shift supervisor, who can pass a message.

7.50 dollars for 30 minutes, through ICSolutions. It is not available to anyone held in administrative or punitive segregation. For families outside Syracuse it is often the more practical option, because in person rounds are narrow and rotate by floor.
