Onondaga County Justice Center, NY

Physical Address 555 South State Street, Syracuse, NY 13202

Onondaga County's jail in downtown Syracuse, formally the Patrick J. Corbett Justice Center, run by the Sheriff's Office Custody Department. It opened in April 1995 as a direct supervision building and it is where every arrest in the county is booked. People who go on to serve a sentence usually move out to the county's second jail in Jamesville, which families often do not realise is a separate place.

  • 4 Mail sent to the wrong building does not get forwarded.

Which Visiting Round You Get Depends on the Floor

  • 2 Rounds one to four cover the 2nd and 3rd floors on Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • 3 Those same rounds cover the whole building on Thursday.

  • 2 There is no outside scanning company handling Onondaga's mail.

Onondaga County Sheriff's Office: Incarcerated Individual Lookup See our sources ›

The county hosts a working name search for the Justice Center, with a single last name box and an A to Z browse alongside it. The catch is that Onondaga runs two jails and each has its own tool on the same server. Search the Justice Center and you will not see anyone held in Jamesville, and the tool does not tell you that.

Visits are in person and contact, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday only, split into five rounds between 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Which rounds are open to you depends on which floor your person is housed on, and the pattern changes between Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Registration closes an hour before you arrive, so this is not a trip you can decide on in the car.

Onondaga runs its own mail room instead of shipping letters to a scanning contractor in another state, and it photocopies the contents and the envelope within one business day. Photos are capped at 8 by 10 inches. Since April 2026 packages have to come direct from a vendor by carrier, which ended the walk-in drop off families had used for years.

Four routes. The lobby kiosk takes cash and cards daily from 7:30 AM to 10:30 PM for a flat 4 dollar fee. Online deposits need the facility code SYR. A money order of 100 dollars or less can go in the post, and personal cheques are refused.

Phone and video both run through ICSolutions. Calls out are collect, and your person needs their Inmate Control Number and a four digit code before they can dial at all. Four numbers are free to call and that list lives only in the handbook. Video visits cost 7.50 dollars for 30 minutes and are closed to anyone in segregation.

Families Also Ask

6 of 10 questions

Q

What are the visiting hours at the Onondaga County Justice Center?

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, in five rounds between 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM. The rounds are 11:00 to 12:00, 12:15 to 1:15, 1:30 to 2:30, 4:00 to 5:00 and 5:30 to 6:30. Which ones you can use depends on the floor your person is housed on, so check that before you plan the drive.

Visitation
Q

Why does the floor matter for visiting?

Because the schedule rotates by floor rather than running the same way every day. Rounds one to four serve the 2nd and 3rd floors on Tuesday and Wednesday, then the whole building on Thursday. Round five serves the 4th and 5th floors on Wednesday and unit 5B on Wednesday and Thursday. Turning up on the wrong day for the wrong floor is the most common way families lose a trip to Syracuse.

Visitation
Q

Is there a visitor application to fill in first?

No. There is no paper application, no form number and no approval process to wait on. What there is instead is registration, which you do through ICSolutions online or at the front desk, at least one hour before you arrive. Registration opens four hours before the round.

Visitation
Q

Where do I send a letter?

To 555 South State Street, Syracuse, NY 13201-2104, with the person's full name, their cell location and their Inmate Control Number on it. That is the address in the county's March 2026 handbook.

Mail & Photos
Q

Does an outside company scan the mail here?

No, and that makes Onondaga unusual. The county photocopies incoming mail itself, contents and envelope both, within one business day. Most jails in New York now route letters to a scanning contractor in another state. Here the letter you post goes to the building your person is in.

Mail & Photos
Q

Can I still drop off a package?

Not since April 3, 2026. Packages have to come direct from a vendor and arrive by carrier, and everything inside has to be new and in its original commercial packaging. Walk-in packages are no longer accepted at all, which catches out families who did it the old way for years.

Mail & Photos
Q

How much does it cost to put money on an account?

The lobby kiosk charges a flat 4 dollars for each deposit and is open daily from 7:30 AM to 10:30 PM, taking cash in exact amounts and credit cards. Online deposits go through smartdeposit.com, where you need the person's full name, their Inmate Control Number and the facility code SYR.

Send Money
Q

Who runs the phones?

ICSolutions, on 888-506-8407. Calls out are collect, and the person calling needs their Inmate Control Number plus a four digit code to get on the phone at all. Their control number is printed on the wristband they were given at booking.

Phone Calls
Q

Are any calls free?

Four are, and the list only appears in the handbook rather than on any web page. Calls to the Jail Ministry, the Human Rights Commission, New York State Parole and Vera House carry no charge. Everything else runs through the ICSolutions account you set up.

Phone Calls
Q

My person is not in the Justice Center lookup. Where else should I look?

The Jamesville facility, which has its own separate tool. Onondaga County runs two jails: everyone is booked at the Justice Center in Syracuse, and people who are sentenced generally move out to the Correctional Facility in Jamesville, about seven miles away. It has a different address, a different phone number and a different lookup, and searching one will never find someone in the other.
