How to Send Money to FCI Seagoville

MoneyGram Code 7932 is the fastest option: funds post within 1–3 business days.

Overview

The BOP accepts money three ways: MoneyGram, Western Union, or a USPS money order mailed to Des Moines. All deposits go into the inmate’s commissary account. You always need the inmate’s full legal name and BOP register number: deposits sent without a register number are returned. The monthly spending limit is $360.

Quick Facts

  • MoneyGram Code: 7932: available at Walmart, CVS, and most MoneyGram agent locations.
  • Western Union: Code City is FBOP DC: available online at westernunion.com.
  • Money orders: Made out to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, mailed to the BOP lockbox in Des Moines, IA.
  • Monthly commissary spending limit: $360.
  • You need the inmate's full legal name and BOP register number for all deposit methods.
  • Funds typically post within 1–3 business days.

Option 1: MoneyGram (Fastest)

MoneyGram is the most common way to deposit funds for federal inmates. You can send it in person at Walmart, CVS, or any MoneyGram agent location, or online at MoneyGram.com.

What you need:

  • MoneyGram Receive Code: 7932
  • Inmate’s full legal name (as it appears in BOP records)
  • Inmate’s BOP register number (format XXXXX-XXX)

At the MoneyGram location, tell the agent you’re sending a “receive code” transaction, not an international wire. Fill in the receive code 7932, then the inmate’s name and register number. Keep your receipt until funds are confirmed.

Option 2: Western Union

Western Union is also accepted and can be done online or in person.

Online at westernunion.com:

  • Select “Pay Bills” and search for “Federal Bureau of Prisons”
  • Code City: FBOP DC
  • Enter the inmate’s full legal name and register number
  • Pay by debit card, credit card, or bank account

Processing time is similar to MoneyGram: 1–3 business days.

Option 3: Money Order by Mail

If you prefer mail, send a USPS money order (not a personal check) made payable to Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Mail to:

Federal Bureau of Prisons
Inmate Name, Register Number
P.O. Box 474701
Des Moines, IA 50947-0001

Write the inmate’s full legal name and register number in the memo field and on the envelope. Money orders typically take 5–7 business days to post after receipt.

What You Need for Any Method

No matter which method you use, have these ready:

  • Inmate’s full legal name: Use the exact spelling from BOP records. Find it at bop.gov/inmateloc/.
  • BOP register number: The format is XXXXX-XXX. Find it through the BOP locator or on any federal court document.

Deposits without the correct name and register number are rejected and returned (minus any fees you paid).
