How to Get on the Approved Visitor List
The inmate adds you to their list: you cannot add yourself. The process:
The inmate requests a Visitor Information form (BP-629) from their unit officer or counselor.
They complete a form for each person they want to add, including full legal name, relationship, address, and date of birth.
The unit team reviews and conducts a background check. Approval typically takes 1–4 weeks.
Once approved, you’ll be notified through the inmate: the BOP does not mail approval letters to visitors.
Maximum of 10 people on the list at a time; maximum of 5 may visit at once.
What to Bring and What to Leave Behind
Visitors may bring a small clear ziplock bag (quart-size) containing: photo ID, car key (no fob), limited cash for vending ($20–$30 in coins and small bills), and one item for nursing mothers if applicable. Everything else stays in your vehicle.
Prohibited: phones, cameras, bags, food, gum, extra clothing, medications (without prior written approval from the warden)
Bring: valid government-issued photo ID: driver’s license, passport, or state ID
Children’s items (diapers, formula) may be permitted: call ahead to confirm.
Dress Code
FCI Seagoville enforces a dress code for all visitors. You may be turned away if your clothing violates these rules:
No clothing that resembles inmate uniforms (khaki, olive drab, or similar colors worn together as a top and bottom)
No clothing that is sexually revealing, excessively tight, or see-through
No steel-toed boots or military-style footwear
Undergarments must be worn and not visible
No clothing depicting violence, drugs, weapons, or profanity
When in doubt, dress conservatively. Business casual is always acceptable. Officers have discretion to refuse entry based on attire.
Visiting Points System
Each inmate at FCI Seagoville is allocated 6 visiting points per month. Points are spent per visiting session, not per visitor:
Weekday visit (Friday): 1 point
Weekend or federal holiday visit: 2 points
Points reset at the beginning of each month and do not carry over.
This means a typical inmate can have up to 3 weekend visits or 6 Friday visits per month: or a combination. Coordinate with the inmate so they don’t run out of points before you plan to visit.
What to Expect on Visiting Day
Arrive early: processing can take time, especially on busy Saturday mornings. Visitors who arrive after the cutoff may not be admitted.
All visitors pass through a metal detector and may be subject to a pat search.
The visiting room has tables and chairs. Physical contact is limited to a brief embrace at the start and end of the visit.
Vending machines are available: coins or small bills only.
Children must remain seated or with an approved adult at all times.
