How to Search BOP.gov
Go to bop.gov/inmateloc/ and enter the inmate’s full legal name. The system searches all federal facilities, so you don’t need to specify FCI Seagoville. Results show the inmate’s current facility, register number, and projected release date.
If you have the register number already (from court documents or the inmate directly), you can search by that instead. Register numbers are formatted XXXXX-XXX and are unique to each person.
What the Register Number Looks Like
A BOP register number is the 8-digit unique identifier assigned to every federal inmate at sentencing. The format is five digits, a hyphen, then three digits: for example, 12345-179. The last three digits typically correspond to the judicial district where the person was sentenced (179 = Northern District of Texas).
You need the register number to:
Send money via MoneyGram or Western Union
Set up CorrLinks email (the inmate gives it to you)
Address mail correctly inside the envelope
Confirm identity when calling the facility
If They Don’t Appear in the BOP Locator
FCI Seagoville holds sentenced offenders, so the locator should show them. Common reasons it doesn’t:
Recent transfer: A move between facilities can take 1–2 business days to update. Check again the next day.
Name mismatch: The BOP uses the legal name exactly as it appears in court documents. Nicknames, middle names, or spelling variations won’t return results.
Recently sentenced: If sentencing just occurred, BOP designation takes time. They may still be at a county or regional facility temporarily.
If you can’t find them after 48 hours, call FCI Seagoville directly at (972) 287-2911.
What “FCI Seagoville” Means in BOP Results
When the locator returns “FCI SEAGOVILLE,” they are at the main low-security compound. If it shows “FCI SEAGOVILLE CAMP,” they are at the minimum-security Satellite Camp on the same grounds: a different unit with different visiting days. See the Satellite Camp guide for camp-specific details.
