How GTLVisitMe Works
Cumberland County Detention Center uses GTLVisitMe for scheduling and managing all visits. GTLVisitMe is a platform run by ViaPath Technologies (also known as GTL/GettingOut). It handles both in-person visits at the facility and video visits from home through a single app.
Before you can visit, you must register at gtlvisitme.com/app. Anyone age 16 or older needs their own approved account. Minors under 16 can attend with an approved adult account holder but do not need their own account.
Step-by-Step: How to Register and Schedule a Visit
Step 1. Go to gtlvisitme.com/app or download the GTLVisitMe app on your phone.
Step 2. Create a free account. You will need to provide your name, a valid photo ID, and contact information.
Step 3. Submit your account for approval. The facility reviews new visitor accounts. Allow time for this process to complete before planning your first visit.
Step 4. Once approved, search for Cumberland County Detention Center and the person you want to visit.
Step 5. Select a visit slot that works within the available hours. Confirm the booking.
Step 6. Arrive at the facility at least 5 minutes before the scheduled visit time. If you arrive more than 5 minutes late, the GTL system automatically cancels your visit. There are no exceptions.

Visitor Limits Per Visit
Each scheduled visit allows either:
- 2 adults and 1 child, or

Each person in custody can receive a maximum of 2 visits per day and up to 14 visits per week. If your visit is denied because the daily or weekly limit has been reached, you will need to schedule another time.
Video Visits From Home
If you cannot travel to Fayetteville, video visits are available through GTLVisitMe at gtlvisitme.com/app. You connect from your own device: a computer, tablet, or smartphone with a camera and microphone.
Rates:
- Up to 10 minutes: $4.00
- Up to 25 minutes: $10.00
Video visits are available daily from 8:30am to 9:45pm. You schedule them through the same GTLVisitMe app used for in-person visits. All video visits are monitored.
What to Bring to an In-Person Visit
Bring a valid government-issued photo ID. Adults without a valid ID will not be admitted. Accepted forms include:
- Driver’s license or state-issued ID card
- U.S. Passport or Passport Card
- U.S. Military ID
Expired IDs are typically not accepted. If your ID is expired or you do not have one, call the visitation department at (910) 672-5632 before traveling.
Cell Phones and Electronics
Cell phones are not permitted inside the facility unless the Jail Administrator has specifically approved them. Leave your cell phone and other personal electronics in your vehicle before entering. The facility does not provide storage for personal items brought to the entrance.
No other personal electronics are allowed in the visiting area. Bags and purses are generally not permitted inside either.
Dress Code
The facility prohibits revealing clothing and anything with visible gang symbols. This includes but is not limited to:
- Low-cut tops or clothing that exposes the midriff
- Very short shorts or skirts
- Clothing with gang insignia, colors, or symbols
Visitors who arrive in clothing that violates the dress code may be turned away. When in doubt, wear modest, plain clothing.
Alcohol and Drugs
Visitors who appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be admitted and will be asked to leave the property. This applies to prescription medications that cause visible impairment as well. Do not attempt to bring alcohol, drugs, or related paraphernalia into the facility.
Children Visiting
Children under 16 can attend a visit with an approved adult account holder. The adult account covers the minor’s entry. You do not need to create a separate account for a child.
If you are bringing a child who is not your own, call the visitation department at (910) 672-5632 in advance to ask whether any documentation is required, such as a birth certificate or notarized permission letter from a parent.
What Happens If Your Visit Is Denied
Common reasons a visit is denied:
- Not on the person’s approved visitor list
- Dress code violation
- Arriving more than 5 minutes late (auto-cancelled by GTL)
- Visitor limit for the day or week already reached
- The person in custody is on a visit restriction due to disciplinary action
- Outstanding warrants for the visitor
If your visit is denied, ask the officer for the specific reason. You can contact the visitation department at (910) 672-5632 or (910) 672-5615 to resolve eligibility issues.
Conduct During Visits
All visits are monitored. Stay within the facility’s conduct rules during the visit. Behavior that disrupts the visiting area or that appears to be facilitating contraband transfer can end the visit immediately and may result in being removed from the approved visitor list.
Do not attempt to pass items to the person in custody during a visit. All commissary and monetary needs are handled through approved channels. See the send money guide for how to fund their account.
Confirming the Person Is Still at the Facility
County jails move people regularly. Before traveling to Fayetteville, check the CCSO active inmate roster at cumberlandsheriffnc.gov:8000/active_inmates/Inmates.aspx to confirm the person is still at Cumberland County Detention Center. See the inmate search guide for details.
