How to Search

Go to webapps.doc.state.nc.us/opi/offendersearch.do?method=view and enter the person’s first and last name. The tool searches all NC DAC facilities statewide, including Davidson Correctional Center in Lexington.

You can also search by OPUS number if you already have it. A partial name search may return multiple results, so confirm the person’s date of birth or other identifying information to make sure you have the right record.

What the Search Shows

Each result includes the person’s name, the facility where they are currently housed, their OPUS number, and basic case information including sentence length and custody level. The OPUS number is what you need for:

• Sending money through ConnectNetwork
• Addressing mail through TextBehind
• Completing the visitor application

Save the OPUS number somewhere you can find it easily. You will use it every time.

What Each Field Means

Facility: Where the person is currently housed. For Davidson residents, this will show Davidson Correctional Center. If it shows a different facility, they may have been transferred.

OPUS Number: The NC DAC offender identification number. This is the key number for all deposits, mail, and visits. Do not confuse it with a court case number.

Custody Level: Davidson is a minimum custody facility. The record should reflect minimum custody. If it shows a different level, the person may be at a different facility.

Projected Release Date: The expected date of release based on current sentencing. This can change if sentences are modified.

If You Cannot Find the Person

Try these steps before calling the facility:

1. Check the spelling. Try a partial name if the full name does not return results.
2. Give the record time. If the person was recently transferred, booked, or reclassified, it can take up to a day for the record to update.
3. Search by OPUS number if you have it. This is more reliable than a name search.
4. Try the NC Department of Adult Correction main search at the NC DAC website in case the person is in a different facility type.

A Note About Work Release Residents

Davidson is a minimum custody reentry facility. Many residents work in the community during the day. They are still in NC DAC custody and will appear in the OPI search under Davidson Correctional Center. The facility record does not change when they leave for a work assignment and return in the evening. If you confirm they are at Davidson in the OPI search but cannot reach them by phone, they are most likely at their work release job.
