Phone calls at Davidson Correctional Center run through ViaPath/GTL via ConnectNetwork. Calls are outbound only: the resident calls you. You cannot call the facility and reach the resident directly. Calls cost $0.10 per minute with a 15-minute maximum per call. To receive calls, your phone number needs to be set up through ConnectNetwork. Davidson is a reentry facility, so many residents are off-site during weekday business hours for work release. Expect most calls in the evenings.
Davidson Correctional Center uses ViaPath/GTL as its phone provider. The resident uses phones inside the facility to call approved numbers through the ConnectNetwork system. Calls are outbound only. There is no way to call the resident directly through the facility phone system.
Your number must be registered and funded for calls to connect. The resident selects your number from their approved list, the system dials you, and you accept the call.
Go to ConnectNetwork.com and create a free account. Use your real name and the phone number you want the resident to call. Make sure the number you register is a number you can reliably answer.
You can register a cell phone or a landline. Some Voice over IP (VoIP) numbers may not work with the system. If you have a VoIP number, call ConnectNetwork support to confirm compatibility before setting everything up.
Calls cost $0.10 per minute. Each call can last up to 15 minutes, so one call costs a maximum of $1.50 plus any applicable fees. You can prepay through your ConnectNetwork account so there is always a balance ready.
The resident can also pay for calls from their own trust account, which you fund through ConnectNetwork deposits. Both methods work. Talk with the resident about which approach you prefer.
Once your number is set up and funded, the resident can call you during phone access hours at Davidson. The call comes in from a recorded announcement identifying the source. Accept the call to connect.
Calls are limited to 15 minutes. The system gives a warning before the call ends. If you want to keep talking, the resident can call back immediately, subject to phone access rules at the facility.
Davidson is a minimum custody reentry facility. Many residents hold work release jobs with local employers in Lexington and the surrounding area. They leave the facility in the morning and return in the evening. During weekday business hours, these residents are at their job sites and cannot use the facility phone system.
If you have not heard from the resident during the day on a weekday, this is a likely reason. Expect calls in the evenings after residents return from work assignments. If you have not heard from someone in several days, call the facility at (336) 249-7528 to confirm they are on grounds.
All calls through ViaPath/GTL at Davidson are monitored and recorded. Do not discuss anything on a call that you would not say in front of facility staff. This includes legal matters: calls with attorneys are not privileged through this system. Attorneys should use separate legal contact procedures.
The resident can only call numbers that are on their approved phone list. If your number is not on the list, the call will not go through even if your ConnectNetwork account is set up. The resident works with the facility to maintain their approved phone list. Ask the resident to confirm your number is on the list if calls are not connecting.
Try these steps:
If voice calls are not working out, video visits are available through the Getting Out Visits app, operated by ViaPath/GTL. Download the app or go to sso.gtlconnect.com to create an account and schedule a video visit. Video visits let you see and talk with the resident from a phone, tablet, or computer.
Video visits are a good option when the resident is available at the facility but in-person travel is not possible.
In some NC DAC facilities, collect calls are available as an alternative billing option. If this applies at Davidson, the charges come to your phone bill rather than a prepaid account. Contact ConnectNetwork support or the facility to ask whether collect calls are available and what rates apply.
