Personal Mail: The Correct TextBehind Address
NC DAC processes personal mail through TextBehind. The letter goes to a P.O. Box in Phoenix, Maryland, where TextBehind scans it and delivers it digitally to the resident at Davidson. Send all personal letters and photos to:
Davidson Correctional Center
[Full Legal Name, OPUS Number]
P.O. Box 247
Phoenix, MD 21131
Put the resident’s full legal name exactly as it appears in NC DAC records. Include their OPUS number on the same line as their name. Mail without the OPUS number can be delayed or returned because staff cannot match it to the right person.
Find the OPUS number with the NC OPI inmate search if you do not already have it.
Why Personal Mail Goes to Maryland, Not Lexington
TextBehind scans the letter and delivers it digitally to the resident at the facility. This is how NC DAC handles personal mail across its facilities statewide. Sending a personal letter directly to 1400 Thomason Street in Lexington will not get it to the resident through the standard mail system.
Books and Publications
Books, magazines, and other publications go directly to the facility, not to TextBehind. Address them to:
[Full Legal Name, OPUS Number]
Davidson Correctional Center
1400 Thomason Street
Lexington, NC 27292
Books must be new and shipped directly from an approved publisher or retailer. Used books or books with markings, personal notes, inserts, or loose items inside are typically rejected. Call (336) 249-7528 to confirm the current book policy before ordering, since rules can change.
Legal Mail
Legal mail, including correspondence from attorneys, courts, and government agencies, goes directly to the facility. Do not send legal mail through TextBehind.
Address legal mail to:
[Full Legal Name, OPUS Number]
Davidson Correctional Center
1400 Thomason Street
Lexington, NC 27292
Legal mail is opened in front of the resident to confirm contents, then inspected for contraband. Staff do not read legal mail for content unless a specific court order permits it. If you are an attorney sending privileged legal mail, mark the envelope clearly and contact the facility in advance if you have concerns about handling.
Sending Photos
Photos can be included in mail sent through TextBehind. TextBehind scans them as part of the mailing. Standard personal photos are generally accepted. Do not send photos that show:
- Nudity or sexually explicit content
- Weapons, drugs, or alcohol
- Gang-related symbols, hand signs, or content
- Any contraband item
- Images that could be used to plan an escape or compromise facility security
Photo rules can change. Call (336) 249-7528 to confirm the current photo policy before sending.
Packages
Packages must go through the facility’s approved vendor at ncinmatepackage.com. Sending packages directly through the mail or through any other vendor will result in them being returned or confiscated. Call (336) 249-7528 before ordering to confirm which items are currently approved for packages.
What Not to Send
Do not include any of the following in mail:
- Cash or checks (use ConnectNetwork for money)
- Stamps (residents are issued stamps through the commissary)
- Stickers, glitter, or anything attached to the paper
- Contraband of any kind
- Items that violate NC DAC mail policy
Sending prohibited items can delay mail or result in lost mail privileges for the resident.
Mail Processing and Inspection
All incoming mail at NC DAC facilities is inspected for contraband before delivery. TextBehind reviews personal mail at the processing center in Phoenix, Maryland. Books and legal mail are opened and checked at the facility in Lexington. Mail is not read for content beyond what is necessary to confirm it meets policy requirements.
Processing time for TextBehind personal mail is typically a few business days from when you drop it in the mail. Plan ahead, especially around holidays when processing can slow down.
What to Do If Mail Is Returned
If a piece of mail comes back to you, check:
- That you used the TextBehind address (P.O. Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131) for personal letters, not the Lexington address.
- That you included the correct full legal name and OPUS number on the same line.
- That the content followed NC DAC mail policy, with no prohibited items or content.
Call (336) 249-7528 if mail keeps being returned without a clear reason.
Mail for Residents on Work Release
Davidson is a reentry facility. Many residents work off-site during the day. Mail addressed correctly to the TextBehind address still reaches residents even when they are in the community on work assignments. The mail is delivered to them at the facility when they return. There is no need to send mail elsewhere because of work release status.
Send Photos and Letters with Pigeonly
The easiest way to send photos and letters to someone at Davidson Correctional Center is through Pigeonly. Upload your photos or write your letter online, and Pigeonly prints and mails everything to the facility for you, following the mail rules listed above.
