How to Schedule a Visit

You must schedule at least 24 hours before the visit. Call the visitation scheduling line at (919) 857-9103, Monday through Thursday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Have the following ready when you call:

  • The person’s full name and inmate ID number
  • Your name and a valid photo ID number
  • The names of any other visitors coming with you
  • Your preferred visit date and time window

Both visitors must arrive at the same time. If one person is late, the group may lose the visit slot.

If you do not know the inmate’s ID number, look it up first using the Police-2-Citizen inmate search at wakeso.policetocitizen.com/Inmates.

Who Can Visit

Each visit allows a maximum of 2 visitors: either two adults, or one adult and one child.

  • Visitors under 16 must be accompanied by someone who is 18 or older.
  • All visitors 16 and older must present a government-issued photo ID.
  • Acceptable IDs include a driver’s license, state ID card, U.S. passport, or military ID.

If a minor is coming without a parent, confirm with the scheduling line whether a notarized permission form is required. Rules can change, and it is better to ask before you travel.

How Many Visits Per Week

Each person in custody is allowed one visit per week, lasting 30 minutes. There are no exceptions for length of stay or custody status. Plan accordingly so the people who matter most are the ones who come.

What to Bring

Bring only your government-issued photo ID. Everything else stays in your vehicle or goes into a locker before you enter the visitation area.

Leave in your car or store in a locker:

  • Purses and bags
  • Cell phones and smartwatches
  • Jackets and coats
  • Wallets and keys (take only your ID)

Do not bring: food, drinks, money, gifts, or any property intended for the person inside. No property or money can be accepted at the visitation center.

If you have a medical device that may trigger a metal detector (pacemaker, implanted rods, prosthetics), bring documentation from your physician. Notify staff when you arrive.

What to Expect On Arrival

When you arrive at 3301 Hammond Road:

  1. Bring your government-issued photo ID.
  2. Check in at the visitation desk and confirm your scheduled appointment.
  3. Store all bags, cell phones, and personal items in the lockers provided.
  4. Follow staff directions to your assigned video terminal.
  5. Your 30-minute visit begins when the connection is established.

Arrive a few minutes early. If you arrive late, your scheduled slot may be forfeited.

Visitor Conduct

Visits can be terminated early if a visitor behaves in a disruptive or inappropriate way. Detainees are responsible for the conduct of their visitors. If a visit is terminated for conduct reasons, future visiting privileges may be affected.

If Your Loved One Was Just Moved

If you called to schedule a visit and were told the person is no longer at Hammond Road, they may have been transferred, released, or moved to a different housing unit. Run a fresh search on the Police-2-Citizen portal to confirm their current location before rescheduling.

Remote Video Visits from Home

The GettingOut app (gettingout.com) may allow you to connect by video from home on a phone or tablet rather than traveling to the facility. This option is offered at many GTL/ViaPath facilities. Contact the visitation scheduling line at (919) 857-9103 to confirm whether remote home visits are available and what the current fees are.

Attorneys and Clergy

Attorneys and approved clergy may visit outside of regular visitation hours. Contact the facility at (919) 773-7930 to arrange a professional visit. Attorneys must show bar credentials and valid ID. All professional visitors are still subject to security screening procedures.

When You Cannot Make the Visit

If you cannot visit this week, letters and photos are still a way to stay connected. Mail goes through the GTL scan-and-forward system and is delivered digitally to the person’s tablet. See the mail and photos guide for the correct address and mailing rules.

Phone calls through GettingOut are another option. See the phone calls guide to set up an account so the person can call you.
