How the Mesquite Jail Roster Works

What the city's live roster shows, update timing, and why names go missing.

Overview

The Mesquite jail roster isn’t a database you query. It’s a live page that shows everyone currently booked at that moment. It updates as people come in and leave. Understanding how it’s built helps you know why a name might not appear yet, and when it’s time to stop waiting and call.

Quick Facts

  • Roster URL: apps.cityofmesquite.com/police_web/jail/index.php — free, no login.
  • Shows current custody only — people who've been released or transferred are removed.
  • Lists alphabetically by last name with charges and bond amount.
  • Booking process can take minutes to hours before a name appears.
  • The page itself notes: information may not reflect actual custody status.

What the Roster Is

The City of Mesquite publishes its jail list at apps.cityofmesquite.com/police_web/jail/index.php. It’s a live HTML page — not a searchable database — that lists every person currently in custody at Mesquite Police Jail at the time you load it.

The city’s own disclaimer on the page states: “The information provided on this webpage may not reflect the actual custody status of the listed person.” This is standard legal language, but it also reflects a real lag: the roster reflects what’s in the system at that moment, which may be minutes or hours behind actual events.

What Each Entry Shows

For each person on the roster, you’ll see:

  • Full legal name and basic demographic info
  • Agency (Mesquite, or another agency whose warrants are being served)
  • Each charge listed separately
  • Warrant number (listed as “Pending…” until assigned)
  • Fine amount and bond amount per charge
  • Judge assigned (where applicable)

The roster does not show: booking date, booking time, inmate ID number, date of birth, or photos.

Why a Name Might Not Be Showing Yet

According to the City of Mesquite’s official FAQ, the booking process “could take minutes or hours to complete” depending on the complexity of the arrest. During that window, the person is in custody but hasn’t been entered into the system yet.

If someone was arrested less than two hours ago, wait before concluding they’re not there. If it’s been more than two hours and the name still isn’t on the roster, call (972) 216-6243. Jail staff can confirm custody status directly.

Why a Name Disappears From the Roster

A name drops off when the person is no longer in Mesquite’s custody. That happens when:

  • Bond was posted and they were released
  • The fine was paid (for Class C charges)
  • They were transferred to Dallas County Jail for felony or Class A/B charges
  • They were released to another agency

If the name was there and is now gone, check the [Dallas County jail lookup](/facility-guides/tx/mesquite-police-jail-tx/felony-transfer-dallas-county/). Transfers for felony charges happen within 24–48 hours.

Is the Mesquite jail roster updated in real time?

It reflects the current system state, which may lag actual events by minutes to hours during the booking process. The city's own disclaimer notes it may not always reflect actual custody status.

Q

Why does the roster show $0.00 for bond?

Either no bond has been set yet (arraignment hasn't happened), the charge qualifies for jail credit only, or a hold from another agency is in place. Bond amounts are set at arraignment, which happens daily 8–10 AM.

Q

Can I search by booking number on the Mesquite roster?

No. The public roster doesn't have a search function — it's a list you scroll through alphabetically by last name. For more detail including booking numbers, call (972) 216-6243.
